In meetings here over the past couple of weeks, Ford CEO Alan Mulally, Mazda CEO Takashi Yamanouchi and other senior managers have discussed how they can continue to collaborate within the framework of their new ownership structure. While their partnership will be less about shared vehicle platforms and more about joint development of automotive systems and technologies, executives from Ford and Mazda said it remains vital to their success.
"The strategic relationship continues. The business relationships continue. And they continue on the basis that they've always continued," Ford Chief Financial Officer Lewis Booth told The Detroit News. "Where it works to the benefit of both companies, we do things together, and where it doesn't, we don't."

as much as they are intertwined right now, that makes sense. Heck, the Mustang is currently in the same plant as I think the Mazda RX8 (or whatever the sports car is now). On one side of the plant is a big Mazda sign, and a big Mustang sign on the other side.
Glad to hear it. Mazda is my favorite Japanese brand and Ford/Mazda shennanigans have always been pretty cool, minus the whole probe almost being the mustang deal; but other than that...

My Fusion is my least favorite car that I ever owned (and we owned two Zastava's 101, a.k.a. Yugo) simply because it doesn't feel like a traditional Ford. And it doesn't feel like a Ford because it's not a Ford, it's a Mazda. Heck, if I wanted a Mazda I would've bought one, I don't wanna Mazda in Ford's body.
It's a nice car, but I absolutely hate driving it. And I wouldn't buy it if it wasn't for my idiot brother (who also now doesn't like it and drives my '00 Mustang). If it was up to me, we would've kept old '97 Dodge Intrepid. It was a crap, but I loved it.
I wish if I bought a Ford I was getting a real Ford.

just outta curiosity... what do you expect from it that its not delivering?
my mazda experiences were always good, and my only fords have been V8 and rwd, so im not sure whats "normal" for a FWD sedan from Ford, or at least what you wanted it to be?

It just doesn't feel like an American car.
It's too noisy (in a bad way), transmission really sucks (especially shifting from 1st to 2nd gear) and it's just so underpowered. I know there was a V6 option, but with older Tauruses V6 would've been standard, I wouldn't have to pay extra for it. A friend of mine from work owns a 4-cyl Camry and it feels a lot more powerful than Fusion (and Fusion is more powerful, 160 hp vs 157 hp).
Maybe my expectations were little too high, but my old '97 Intrepid was a lot more fun to drive than Fusion. I guess I'm used to cars with a lot of torque that don't need 3,000 RPM to speed up.
