I love this line - especially for the goon squad that want to make it sound like Ford had to mortgage the joint just to make payroll and avoid banko (when the plan & restructuring were done in 2006):

In the midst of the worst crisis to hit the auto industry since the Great Depression, Ford's performance under Chief Executive Alan Mulally, with some strong boardroom backing, serves as a textbook example of a turnaround. It was focused and lucky, identifying what needed to be changed and tapping capital markets to fund the job with uncanny timing.

Good news from Ford, 2009 was profitable

Ford posts profit for quarter, full year
January 29, 2010 - 8:28AM

Ford Motor Co has reported net earnings of $US868 million ($A971.03 million) in the fourth quarter,
enabling the struggling automaker to show a $US2.7 billion ($A3.02 billion) profit for all of 2009.

The number two US automaker, which posted its first full year of positive net income since 2005, said it
expected to remain profitable in 2010, marking a faster-than-expected turnaround after years of steep losses.

"While we still face significant business environment challenges ahead, 2009 was a pivotal year for Ford and
the strongest proof yet that our One Ford plan is working and that we are forging a path toward profitable
growth by working together as one team, leveraging our global scale," said Ford president and chief executive Alan Mulally.

"In every part of the world, we are providing customers with great products, building a stronger business and
contributing to a better world. Our progress has helped us gain market share in most of our major markets."

I'm happy about this, but do remember that they had alot of one time refinancing deals to save them money. Still hell of a lot better than anyone else.

Go Ford!

2.7 billion. Nice.

Just to compare, though, Exxon makes that much in about a week, give or take... and they were targeted in the past because of it, as added up for a year, it was **HUGE**. Doesn't matter it was 8%... it's a *gigantous* amount of money. How dare they...

So, with that said, is Ford next, given that GM and Chrysler are on government loans, and Ford is not? I mean.. how dare they make so much in comparison!

Discuss.

/Not really, way to go Ford! Make them others look stupid!

I came to that conclusion 10 years ago when Bill Ford became chairman of the board.
When I read about what his visions for the company were, I knew they were on the right track.
