Ford GT sales down 40% in July
From www.FordGTprices.com
August 2 Update:
Ford GT sales plummet 40% in July
May sales were 117 cars, June sales were 150 cars, but July sales dropped to only 91 cars. http://media.ford.com/pdf/July2005sales.pdf
Reason #1: Many dealers are waiting in vain to find buyers willing to pay $180K or $200K or more, instead of paying the current market price of $165K-$170K.
Reason #2: Ford's recent highly-illogical $10,000 price increase ("Hey, sales are slow, let's raise the price!") has further confused buyers and sellers (and they were already confused enough!)

Hmmm. I'd blame the dealers more than the 10K price increase though that seemed illogical to me. Buyers who can cough up the cash for a GT aren't phased by a price increase like that until it gets outrageous and that's what dealers have done. No surprise that sales have dropped.

Ford is diggin their own grave, maybe they should try to remember the legend of "The Jaguar XJ220: The Car Nobody Wanted."
PS - I know this is old news.

I'm not sure on the exact numbers, but i think they were listed at about $300,000 (probably selling for 400) so when the decision was made to build it everyone was rushing to put down their $100,000 deposits. A year later or whatever, when they started rollling out of the factory the enthusiasm was gone for the car and most of the buyers cancelled their orders (paying about a $100,000 penalty i believe). So most of the buyers ended up paying half or 2/3s of what the car cost and ended up with nothing.
The motto here: when a car is hot you gotta take advantage, and in the case of Ford dealers, not hold out for impossible amounts of money.

Okay, I have to put my .02 in. You have to ride in one of these cars to fully appreciate it. IMO I would pay $200k for a GT if I had the money.
Even at the upcharge price they are still less expensive than a Ferrari 360 Modena and they have better performance to boot!

If I had the money I would pay more than you want to know, but i guess the problem is that for every 10k they go up they have more people who cant justify spending that much. Unfortunately the whole world isnt as car crazy as people here.
