The Blackhawk is to the Ford Crown Vic what the Impala SS was to the standard Chevrolet Caprice. Although Ford officially calls it a concept car, insiders say this bad ride is headed for showrooms next year. Power is provided by a 4.6L SOHC V-8 making 235 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, exhaling through large-diameter exhaust pipes and low-restriction mufflers. This output is up from 220 hp and 265 lb-ft in the quotidian Crown Vic's 4.6.
Strangely, the Crown Vic Blackhawk will compete with Ford's own Mercury Grand Marquis Marauder, a 5.4L V-8-equipped big sedan originally scheduled for production this year. The Marauder will now appear in showrooms after the Blackhawk debuts.
The Crown Vic Blackhawk's 4.6L muscle is fed to the rear wheels through a high-stall 11.25-in. torque converter, a four-speed automatic, a beefy aluminum- driveshaft, and a 3.27:1 axle ratio. Brakes are four-wheel discs with 12.4-in. front vented rotors and 11.1-in. rears. Ford has enhanced the driving dynamics with the same performance handling package available on the standard Vic. That includes a 1-in. drop in height, monotube shocks, and huge P255/45ZR18 tires on alloy wheels.
Design touches reinforce the sedan's night-stick carrying image. Exterior chrome is blacked out, and a bright chrome plate surrounding the floor shifter sets off the wonderfully sinister-looking interior. Black leather buckets and a matching instrument panel trim give the car a "Men in Black" attitude. Bottom line: MIB wannabees will dig this car, and so will everyone who missed the chance to buy an Impala SS.

For a second I thought Ford was coming out with a new edition to celebrate the "end" of the Panther platform, and then I saw the date...
All that excitement for nothing! And it just reminds me that the Marauder never got the 5.4L

i also got excited about a final response from ford to the dodge charger/magnum police cruiser thing. i don't think scott intended for us to think this was news though. they should give the high performance panther car another shot, *slap NO! says enviro-Jeff... okay how bout a crown vic with the mustang 4.6 plus the escape's electric motor??? its got plenty of room for batteries and so forth... it'd be perfect for those cops idling all over the place, but wanting a little extra boost on take off.

Nothing special. They should bring Marauder back.

You are correct, I never intended for it to be news. I remember when it was news and wished it had been posted earlier. I wanted to add it to the site as a search reference and to give us more content, plus the car looks cool as heck!
Sorry I did mean to put that it was an old article, but forgot to as I got in a hurry.

Actually Ford did come out with the Blackhawk in that case. The LX Sport has 239 hp with the added rear sway bar and 3.27 gears. As for the panther cars themselves? I read an edmunds article saying they will be here to stay to 2010 at the minimum. I also read another article saying that STAP, the plant where they are built, is getting $300million upgrades. The 06' Marquis is finally getting a tach. So I guess that's a good sign.
