Focus ST..... downgrading to one.
I'm thinking about selling my Mustang again and getting into a Focus ST3.
The 5.0 isnt really practical for here.. its a 2x4 mile island and max speed is 35 mph.. only place its 55 is on US 1 going up the islands to Homestead and even then its only 40% of that 120 mile trip.
Ive been thinking about the Focus ST. 4 banger, almost double the MPG, Cheaper overall car and insurance. As of right now the local dealer doesnt have one. I'd have to go to Miami to test drive one.
Think I would be happy in it?

I was thinking of doign the same thing. If you really want better mpg/insurance and such get the new fiesta ST. The Focus is great but the mpg will be close to the mustang.

maybe the C-max energi. You can use it as just gas or just electric or a combo of the two.

I guess I don't understand. I thought you were complaining about not getting to drive it. Practical is opposite as driving a car for sake of enjoying the car. I buy Mustangs to enjoy them, bot because it is the practical thing to drive.

We bought a new Focus SE 5dr/Sport/Manual a year ago. It's a fun car to drive.
We are old and live in Metro Detroit. Perfect driving records etc. I was very surprised that the Focus cost $500 more a year to insure then our 07 Mustang GT.
The insurance company explanation was that the Focus is designed to "crush" in a collision protecting the occupants but resulting in a larger damage claim. I don't know if that's B.S. or not.
I drove an ST and was impressed, although I would opt for the base model without MFT and the Recaro's, I am 6" 175 and I think that I am the only person who prefers the standard seats.
When I checked into insurance for an ST it was $170 a year more then our Focus so close to $700 a year more then our Mustang.

To the OP, only you can decide if you'll like the Focus ST since you decided the Mustang doesn't suit your current situation. Time for a road trip for the test drive!

With 35 mph speed limit, even a spirited drive of 80 could cost you your license for reckless driving.
I lived in a senior neighborhood with a speed limit of 20mph until you hit the highway. (The hope of the highway was only thing that kept me from cursing the whole two mile drive out.) it's restrictive and gets old really fast!
Sure you can take your chances speeding, but the fear of getting pulled over will always play in your mind. It's so not worth it.
That being said, I would trade it in. Save some coins, lay low, put that extra money in savings, and consider the new Mustangs in 2015. Situations may have changed by then...but as is, the scenario right now is not practical.

Even driving it to enjoy it just sucks... see above. You can't enjoy a 400 hp car at 35/45/55mph on a 2 lane road behind jackasses and not be able to pass.
Your definition of "practical" is different than mine then. For how the car can be driven here in this location, all the way up to Homestead its not practical to have as you cant enjoy it as its meant to be driven.
anyway.. I drove up to Miami this morning (a 3.5 hour drive) and arrived home around 930 pm..
