AutoGuide is reporting that the Fiesta ST has gotten the green light.
We already know that the subcompact hot hatch will use a 1.6-liter EcoBoost I-4 tuned to 178 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque, with power routed to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. When Ford revealed the production-intent car in Geneva, it said that the smaller ST should be good for a run from 0 to 62 mph in less than seven seconds, and offer a top speed above 136 mph. A lower ride height, along with the same Torque Vectoring Control and three-mode stability control used on the Focus ST will help put the power to the ground and keep the sportiest Fiesta ready and able to attack corners.

Ford really should release their ST varients alongside the rest of the Focus and Fiesta lineup rather than waiting 2 years. I think that would give the whole lineup an extra dose shine right off the bat with the ST's becoming the iconic models that the others fall under. Mini did just this to great success by launching the Mini Cooper S alongside the more dray version.

By delaying, as has Ford and also Fiat with their Abarth, the iconic model is just some nice-enough but hardly scintillating mid-range commuter version that at best generates due respect but at worst, generates, well, apathy. It becomes more difficult, though not impossible, to switch the two lines iconic model to the ST models in the public's mind's eye.

In any case, good that they are, finally, releasing the STs stateside. Hopefully they'll bring over the 3-door versions too as they are the best looking.

Now, how about some RS versions...

So is it confirmed that we'll get this car stateside then? And if so will it be three-door or five? I wouldn't get too excited yet flagstang, unless I've missed something somewhere..

The USA will get the 5 door only, and sales will start most likely next summer.

I guess for the same reasons(s) buyers do too ... (whatever those reasons might be).

Personally I see this car as the 16-29 demographic. Who would want 5 doors in that demo without even the choice of 3? To me they're losing people.

Considering that the base price will most likely be the same as Fiat 500 Abarth ($22,500), people who wanna a 2 door car might as well buy a Mustang V6 for the same price.

But what about the commie tree huggers who think even V6 Mustangs kill baby seals, but they occasionally like to drive quick in their econo boxes.

Ugh.

Around here idiot parents live in 1500 sq.ft. houses and buy their 16 year old kids $20-30k new cars when they turn 16. But that's another story. If I ever bought one for myself or for my kids I'd want a 3 door or I'd go buy something else. Maybe I'm a rarity.
