2 possibilities: They're in low-rate preproduction and simply cut a Flex out of that run for the family. If so then they likely went over it with a CAT scanner to make sure it was tip-top and not likely to bust something (resulting in bad press). Other possibility is that its still an early build but as a placeholder, and Ford has promised to replace it with a production Flex later.
