F-150 needs a more powerfull engine since all trucks have more power than F-150. 320 hp won't do when Ram is availble with 390 hp, Silverado & Sierra with 403 hp and Tundra with 381 hp. Heck, even Titan will be availble with 390 hp engine.

Ford needs to hurry with 6.2L.

Doesn't the F150 still the highest towing capacity vs. all those other trucks and powerplants?

Is there talk of the half ton getting a deisel sometime soon? I know my F-150 with the 5.4 rated at 300hp for the year I have it is enough power as far as I'm concerned but I wouldn't want to tow 10,000lbs everyday with it. Now my father's 1 ton Superduty powerstroke pulls 10,000lbs. so well you don't even know it's behind you.

Are they going to offer a V6 again, or is that going in a future F-100 or something. The reason I ask is that we have had several V6 5speed manual work trucks that get good gas mileage because in construction we need the larger bed size compared to a Ranger, but we don't necessarily need all that horsepower or torque. I still need a gas sipping 1/2 ton for work.

Yep, 11,000 lbs.

But you'll be crazy to tow that much with 1/2 ton truck.

F-150, Expedition and Navigator were supposed to get 4.4L V8 diesel from Land Rover rated at 330 hp, but I think that was put on hold due to current economic situation.

4.6L in my F-150 is rated at 231 hp and 300 lb ft torque. And let's face it - it's slow (especially when you go from a Mustang to F-150), its not enough power for such a big and heavy truck.

Yes you would. I don't like doing any more than 6,000 on our extremely flat roads. But I have been known to put 2,000 lbs in the bed on occasion.

Same here, few times I als did put ~2,000 lbs in the bed.

Now that I think of, I never towed anything with my F-150. And I had it for almost 4 years.

4x4 is a life saver during winters and snow.

First gear is a deep 4.17:1

that is a MONSTER first gear. Kind of like the II's RAD4's first gear of 4.5ish

The new F-150 looks goooood

I think this day an age, having max power in the class isn't nearly as much of a sales draw as having max fuel economy. People just might be getting over the latest round of horsepower wars.
I'd love to see an electric hybrid F-150, but I don't think we've heard any rumors of ford working on that. For a while we were hearing about hydraulic hybrid, that would've been awesome and would've really made the truck stand out from the pack. But I'm guessing development didn't pan out into anything promising, cause we haven't heard anything about the hydraulic hybrid system at all lately.

Oh wait, GM already has a hybrid truck/SUV... Ford should get on the ball - if the electric motors' insta-torque helps with towing, all the better.

GM has a v8 hybrid Silverado. Not much improvement on mpg 3 or 4 more miles on real tests.
A v6 hybrid version would make much more sense, since that set up should have equal or more torque than a v8 + better gas mileage. My 2 cents.

I wonder how long it takes for the cost difference of the hybrid vs conventional truck to pay itself off with a 3-4mpg increase.

3-4 is pretty substantial for truck owners though..

3 to 4 mpg would be a 36% increase in fuel economy for me.

So in doing the math with $2.50/gallon gas I could have saved $1,233.00 over the first 20,000 miles I owned the vehicle.
