So while i just figured the CX-7 would get the Duratec 35 like the edge and the aviator, it looks like this thing is coming out a little earlier and will get the turbo 4 cylindre from the MazdaSpeed6.

...Mazda CX-7 is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four-cylinder direct-injection gasoline engine that produce s 244-horsepower at 5,000 rpm. While key powertrain features are shared with the recently launched MAZDASPEED 6, the Mazda CX-7 is exclusively tuned to deliver 258 lb-ft of torque at a remarkably low 2,500 rpm, and at least 99-percent of the maximum torque available all the way to the 5,000 rpm horsepower peak. With Mazda's six-speed Sport AT transmission, CX-7 performs as if there's an engine twice the size under the hood. Furthermore, the Mazda CX-7 delivers an estimated 23mpg in combined driving...
They say it'll come out spring 2006 as a 2007. The edge and aviator are supposed to come out fall 2006, and they're both supposed to get the new 3.5L ford V6 with about 250hp and 240lb-ft. It'll be interesting to compare the edge with the cx-7, especially for the engine performance and fuel economy. Is the smaller engine with a turbo any more efficient than a simple engine with more displacement if they both put out about the same kind of power? That's what i wanna know.

I read somewhere that although the CX-7, Edge, and Aviator all share a common platform, the CX-7 was developed separately from the other two and they aren't mechanically identical.
