Another Legacy of Jaques Nassar . The Former Ford Leader who was The Father of the FIRESTONE Wilderness A.T. Tire Scandal. Saved a Nickel a Tire but cost ford billions.BTMO.

Having both a Pontiac Solstice and a Saturn Sky is a PERFECT example of what GM is doing wrong. The redundancy in the company is staggering. What's more staggering is that they just don't seem to get it.

GMAC was the working man's trucks
Chevy was the blue collar worker.
Pontiac was for the white collar worker.
Buick/Oldsmobile was for professionals (lawyers, doctors).
Cadillac was for the CEOs.
Now, everything is a blur and the cars directly compete with each other. The redundancy causes confusion among the customers. Tahoe? Yukon? Which is really better? That it is hurting their sales. I think this is part of the reason they closed shop on Oldsmobile, eliminate one of the "competitors".

Back when GM realigned itself in the '60s, they had they're "divisions" broke up so to target certain segments:

Sad that a company of that stature is still using a 40-year-old business model. On the other hand, I guess dissolving iconic companies like Olds, Pontiac or Buick is a tough pill to swallow...not to mention all those people out of work.
Still, desperate times call for desperate measures. If GM wants to survive, my prediction is they'll have to do just that.
