Aston Martin Targets F430, Gallardo

The new ownership certainly isn't messing around. Along with green-lighting the Rapide and setting course for a new flagship (DBX), it looks like AM's looking to create a new car, possibly mid-engine, to go after the Gallardo and F430. Oh Hell Yeah.

I doubt Richards has any interest at all in Mass-market cars. It wasn't even his idea origionally to purchase AM, and his prior production possibility (P2) never went into production. I think he's great right where he is, and as long as they're at least technical partners with Ford, I consider them part of the Blue Oval Galaxy.

Nope, N/A only. You have to remember that at that level it's not all about performance. Go watch the Top Gear vid where Clarkson races the DB9 versus the train. An Aston has to have a certain feel, a certain character. And part of that character is a big, fire-breathing N/A engine.

Disagree totally, at that level it IS about performance, we're not talking about competing with an S class or a M5 here, although even those haul ***.
The only thing better than a fire breathing engine is one with twin turbo's on it.
And I've seen all the Top Gear vids, that's a DB9, not a F430/Gallardo competitor.

2. Neither the Gallardo nor the F430 are force-fed, and the Aston N/A legacy stretches back farther than either of those. It's completely possibly to compete w/o slapping turbos on, so why do it?
3. It's not all about performance. If you're spending $150-200k you're looking for the total package. Look at Clarkson, he bought a Gallardo even though the F430 beats it on numbers because he liked the Lambo more.

1. The F430/Gallardo competitor still has to be an Aston. The Vanquish is an Aston, the DB9's an Aston, and the Vantage is an Aston. You know it looking at them, you know it driving them. There's no doubt the Gallardos a Lambo or the F430 a Ferrari, Aston can't just slap their badges on "the ultimate performance machine," they need to make a Aston.

2. So what? Why not beat them? The current Aston V8 is way behind Ferrari and Lambo, what are they going to do to get over 500 horsepower out of a little V8?
3. If you want to think that, if you can't compete with them on performance, then youo don't have a F430/Gallardo competitor.

Someone doesn't get it...
It is about more than performance, it is about being an Aston Martin
The best exhaust tone, the hand-craftmanship, the amazing interior, the perfect 50/50 balance, and the Aston styling.
Power. Beauty. Soul.

Using your logic, the Carrera GT isn't a Porsche because the Cayenne has a back seat..

I wouldn't want to be in an Aston Martin club that doesn't even get cars.

Aston Martin will build a new sports car to compete with the Ferrari F430 and Lamborghini Gallardo, according to American investor John Sinders, who is now a co-owner of the British company.
