2013 ford focus. The dreaded trans issues.

Well it has officially begun. My wife's 2013 focus has started having the dreaded "stuttering" trans issues. I have called numerous times since we bought the car saying that sometimes it's rough shifting in lower gears. I was told that this was "normal" because of the six speed trans. I'm not dumb enough to believe that. No new car should have troubles shifting. Anyway it finally starting to do it all the time and I took the car in to be looked at. The mechanic that drove with us said there was certainly something wrong and to bring the car in for service. This ended up being a month away because they had no loner cars at the time. It is currently due to be in November 10th. They told me then that they haven't had many back for that issue even though I mentioned that I have seen a lot of feedback and received a paper about it from ford in the mail. Service guy tells me "I hope this issue doesn't effect your opinion on the ford brand". Ok so I'm waiting. During that month it has seemed to get even worse. I call back to see if maybe they have something sooner. The guy tells me no we don't you will have to wait because "we have a ton of cars in with the same issue". What?! I'm frustrated already and almost do not even want to bring it in. I'm ready to trade the car in and get away from it altogether. It's a 2013 with under 26k. It should not be having this issues. From what I have read in others feedback, this issue has been a nightmare for everyone with a recent focus. My whole thing is, cmon ford! step up and own it. I'm so frustrated already and the car hasn't even been in for service yet. Sorry for the long read. Im just very unhappy already with the situation. I know there are some fellow focus owners on this forum and was wondering if you guys have had the issue and what the outcome was. Thanks

Let me get this transmission and service situation addressed, lime05. Please PM me with your VIN, dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number so I can escalate it to the customer service manager for your area.

I just had the recall done on my wife's car. The seal issue leads tot he clutch in the auto 6 speed failing. If that dealer doesn't fix it go to another. My dealer brought the car in and confirmed the issue and ordered parts. Since its a recall ford gave us a rental car. Took two days for tour dealer to get to the issue and now the car is driving better then new at 30k miles on the wife's SE.

Thanks for all the feedback. Even though I'm frustrated, I'm trying my best to reserve my overall opinion until after the service. I'm just worried that it will happen again. I'm glad some have said that they have had success. And thanks for getting involved Deysha. I will certainly pm you that info. My dealer has said that I will get a loner car with no charge so that's a plus.

Ford has identified the issue and are fixing it. It sucks that such a new car has a major flaw and that you are reminded about this flaw constantly because it affect drivability. Keep in mind that the mustang and higher end luxury cars have had similar issues. I will get fixed and it will put a smile on your face again.

It seems that's the case. I received a letter in the mail stating my warranty was extended because of the known issue...yada yada. So I'm a little relieved by that, but the whole car literally shakes now so I'm just getting anxious to have it fixed. I love the car otherwise.

Well I dropped my wife's car off today. Was in and out quickly and was given a loner for the day. They called me and said they would need the car until at least tomorrow afternoon so hopefully it will be all good to go. Didn't get much into details about what they were actually doing to it as I was at work but I guess I'll find out tomorrow. I was also contacted by a ford rep thanks to Deysha. I'll update what the outcome is in case anyone else has this issue. I did manage to snap a picture while I was on my way in. Wish I could trade the focus in on this beauty!

Well got the car back last night. Overall I would say I had a good experience with the dealership. The guy from service that I spoke to said that there was an issue and that they replaced the clutch and seals. I drove the car home from the dealership and to work today (maybe about 25-30 miles so far) and it does feel like the issue was solved. For now at least...hope it stays that way. But for now it does feel like new. Shifts smoothly and no shuttering. Only one thing I found sort of strange? I got home and looked at the print out of the services done to it and they listed multi point inspection and also that I was given a loaner car. Then I guess the technician or service guy at the counter literally wrote in pen "replaced clutch and seals". I found that was a little weird that it was written in and not part of the computer print out? But o well I guess. Thanks for the feedback from the previous posts. Seems like I had the same issue. Clutch and seals. And as always, thanks to Deysha! Glad to have someone that is so involved with customers satisfaction.

Shuttering under load is typically a torque converter issue on a regular auto trans.

Had a rental Focus not too long ago and it would tend to "stutter/shudder" a bit too at various low load/rpm conditions. Nothing serious but if it were my car, I don't think I'd appreciate it.

A shame that Ford's DCT seems to fall far short in various ways as compared to the excellent one in various VW/Audis. It would be nice to have one of the caliber of a GTI's as an option in the ST twins.

I toyed with the idea of trading my se in on an st. The dealer I usually buy from has two in my price range. Listed at $25,345 One black, one performance blue. I drove the performance blue one and really liked it. The only drawback for me is I like the recaros and neither has them. I still really like it regardless. I was hoping they would run some more incentives soon to get the 2014's off the lot.
