2013 Ford Escape spied

The next-generation, 2013 Ford Escape has just been caught testing on public roads wearing only minimal camouflage, and by the looks of it, the new Escape appears to be close to production-ready. First previewed by the Vertrek concept at the 2011 Detroit auto show, the new Escape is yet another global vehicle as part of Ford’s One Ford strategy that replaces both the Escape on our shores and the Kuga in Europe. The small crossover wears styling cues seen on other recent Fords such as the Focus and Explorer. The Escape spotted here has tidy, stylish lines and a more rounded shape than the current car.
The new Escape will be powered by one of three four-cylinder engine options. The base mill is a 2.5-liter inline-four carried over from the current model, with 171 hp and 171 lb-ft of torque. From there, buyers can upgrade to one of two EcoBoost engines, each with direct fuel injection and turbocharging. A 1.6-liter EcoBoost inline-four produces 180 hp and 170 lb-ft. Although that’s barely more than the base engine, Ford says it will return trump the base enigne’s fuel economy, and bring home 31 mpg on the highway. The top-spec engine will be a 2.0-liter EcoBoost inline-four. Ford has yet to release power figures for that mill, although the same engine is rated for 240 hp and 270 lb-ft in the new Ford Explorer.
Ford has confirmed that we will see the new Escape in production form at the Los Angeles auto show in November. That could mean it will go on sale here as early as spring 2012.

Not seeing it ... The taillights are close but the a and c pillars are different along with the roofline headlights grill body lines and what looks like the rear end.

They are not identical, but are very similar.

Lately Ford has more Korean design than Korean cars.

Like you, I'm not seeing it, though, in this day and age, you can draw stylistic similarities comparing almost any vehicle on the market!

Only 31mpg? I'll take the CX-5 that'll get mid 30s with basically the same power.

Yeah, I also expected more.
Ford said they won't offer a Escape hybrid due to Escape 1.6L EcoBoost having the same fuel economy (34/31 FWD, 30/27 4WD).

Although I have no idea why Ford has both Edge and Escape. They're both crossovers now, they even share a 2.0L EcoBoost engine, they're similar size ...

FAP, i think the Edge is in a higher price class. The Escape is the low price option to do battle with the Koreans.

I like the front end, not sure about the rest of the car. I believe this is also going to be at LA, so we should know details soon.

I don't know... looks more like a jacked up car than an SUVish vehicle.

I'll reserve final thoughts till I see it in the flesh.

im pretty sure the new Escape is still quite smaller than the Edge, it's riding on the new Focus platform and suppose to be competing with other compacts like the RAV4 and CRV. Whereas the Edge rides on the modified Fusion platform.

Ford has been doing a lot of things right lately, but this thing appears to be a bit of a miss for me...

Actually, if it had been out for 2012, I likely would have gotten it instead of a Focus (which I love) as it would be a better vehicle for hauling my retriever/going hunting.
