2012 Ford Focus ST - First Look

http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-c...-ford-focus-st

The new Focus ST comes powered by a high-performance version of Ford’s 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine. It serves up 246 bhp while delivering “significantly better fuel economy” than the previous Focus ST (which never made it to our shores).

The Ford engineering team is also paying extra attention to the ST’s Electric Power Assist Steering (EPAS) system. A development team recently completed cold weather testing in northern Europe, as well as exacting exercises to refine the steering’s performance. Anyone for a spin around a frozen lake?

I owned a 2005 st and it was a fun little car the only thing that sucked was the stock gears in 5th gear at 70 the rpms were 3000-3500

I gotta say I prefer the front on the one Lalo posted. The back is a bit fussy. I do dig the central exhaust though

I'm sure the US front is going to look like the one lalo posted not the normal bumper on the mule.

Hopefully they'll keep it a tastefully understated, like the GTi. One can always tart up a car via options and the aftermarket, but it much harder to de-clown a car.

In Europe, an ST badge was a little more than new bumpers and a spoiler.

European Focus ST was powered by a 2.5L turbo I5 engine (225 hp).

Needs to lose 2 of those doors. Also needs AWD and another 50hp to compete with the other cars they listed.

Golf R is only 250 Hp and AWD. That's some of the only competition I see. I guess you could say WRX. But I agree, I'd love to see AWD and around 250 Hp on the ST. I am not that big a fan of AWD but it is nice when that's the segment. I also don't think that AWD is the god send to handling. The great driver behind an AWD car that knows how to deal with the torque steer and understeer is the winner. Otherwise it just pulls the car wherever.

That's not the point. Why would I plunk my money down the the Ford, when I can get a Subaru or Mitsibushi with more power and AWD for the same money.

The WRX starts at 25k and does 0-60 in 4.7 sec. No chance this Focus gets anywhere near either of those numbers.

Focus ST will be cheaper, there is no way Ford wants for Focus ST to compete against Mustang V6 or to be more expensive.

And Focus is nowhere as ugly as Impreza, especially new 2012 model. I don't care how fast it is, I would never drive something this ugly.

I think you are mistaken if you think the ST will be cheaper then the Mustang V6, we just sold a titanium focus for $28k... and that doesn't have a HO engine.

ST will be hitting 30's loaded, base I'm guessing will be in the higher 20's.

In that case, I don't think many people will be buying a Focus ST. Especially if Focus ST hits Mustang GT's price territory.

Hmm, I didn't realize the WRX was that inexpensive. The Evo is near $34k though. Not to mention the low reliability record and incredibly poor fuel mileage. I just don't think the ST is out to get either of these cars though. The ST is a compromise between price, performance and economy.
