I've installed my Y2K Cobra R hood on my 2002 GT and all seems to be lined up well; however the hood latch will not catch. No matter how much pressure I put on the hood. Gotta be careful how much pressure since it's fiberglass.

Anyhow I've tried repositioning the latch and hood but still no luck. Anybody have experience with this that could provide some hints?

I had a topic(either here or the GT section) a few weeks ago...with the regular GT hood.

The problem that I found was following the path of the hood from the start of the drop to the finish.....it wouldn't catch at the end of the throw. Or it didn't have enough momentum to slam.

Pushing won't help...it needs a good drop.

You need a good 12inches to slam it, but like you said it's fiberglass.

 

I'm going to try shimming the latch a bit, then try to drop the hood from about 12 inches. I don't think that will hurt the hood.

I'm a little nervous as I've never owned a fiberglass hood.

The hood does not weigh much so I'm hoping it will have enough force to catch when dropping.

I just ordered a full carbon fiber 00 Cobra R hood (with functional vents) from Niche Performance Industries last week. Where did you get yours from?

Hope I don't run into any fit problems with mine.

My hood is from Ford Racing. I ended up raising the latch more and now it works like a charm. Fitting was fairly easy but the latch threw me off.
