Hi, I have a 1999 v-6 3.8L Mustang, I want to put a 418w/485HP motor in it.....I know there is a lot to do, but if anyone can tell me what to get that would help me out....if u wanna see the motor, You can go to the website, ford crate engines. I hear all the time u r crazy, just by a new 1, but i dont want a payment and i want speed, i asked so many people and they keep letting me down. Thankyou SAL
Aside from price and installation problems, you will also have to deal with emmisions. In Pennsylvania, the VIN of the car is keyed into machine, and the machine decodes it to determine, based on the model and engine, what exhaust should be emitted from the car. A 418 will put out a little more pollutants than your stock 3.8. You will have to find a way to bypass the emissions test if you want to do this.
About 15 years ago, my dad bought a 1983 4-cyl Ranger that was in real bad shape. He swapped the engine for a .30-over 302 out of a late 70s lincoln, and did a lot of exhaust, intake, and cam work to it. The engine made around 260-280 hp, and it was in a 2000 lb truck. It was a lot of fun, but when the emission laws changed in PA in the mid-90s, the truck became illegal and he had to sell it. Not fun.
