Turbo in midpipe..?

Okay so I have a dumb question....

I was at a carshow in my mach 1 and some guy came up to me and suggested that I put a "turbo in my mid pipe". I've never heard of putting a turbo in there or thought of that... I was quite thrown off and confused by that, anyone wanna help me understand what that means or does. Thanks!

In for answers too

I tried to do some research on this topic once before, after watching Passtime someone had a Camaro with this kind of set up.

Only thing I got is the turbo is not in the engine bay but I don't know pros or cons. I did find some new edge that had this set up and the turbos were located in the side scoops.

I've seen turbos on the catbacks ( there were no mufflers) but I think you get more lag. As for how it's all hooked up I'm not sure.

I definitely would love to do a mid pipe turbo because from what I've heard it increases hp alot and isn't as expensive as the average turbo kit. Would you guys ever do it?

From what I understand, there's a lot more turbo lag and not being in the engine bay, reliability and upkeep is a issue.

Plus on the midpipe its more vulnerable. Ive seen mid-pipe, cat-back, rear exhaust mounted, and standard "crammed in the engine bay" turbos. Pros and cons with each one but i dont understand the systems enough to explain.

Never heard of this either. I've heard of rear mounted turbos but never mid pipe mounted

Obviously you can mount turbos anywhere in the exhaust, but that doesn't mean you'd want to.

I can't see there being any room in the mid pipe for a turbo, except right at the bottom where the cats are, also the place you always bottom out on. So I wouldn't be putting a turbo there. Honestly the best place on these cars has been in front of the engine.
