Takes a few times to start my 2003 Ford Mustang GT
Hi,
I've been having trouble with my car for a while and I can't seem to figure out what is wrong with it. Every time I start my car, it whines and dies the first 1-3 times before I can get it running again. I rebuilt my entire fuel system and the problem still happens. I had a friend run some diagnostics and he thinks it might be the VPWR to CMP sensor. I don't really know what that is, but I'd really like to fix this without spending $1500. Does anyone have any experience with this problem and could offer me some insight?
Thanks

From my own personal experience, and that of a couple others, believe it or not, when the crankshaft positioning sensor starts reading incorrectly, you very well may have an alternator problem.
Mine wouldn't fire up after it had been running, and when it tried, often times it was backfire like crazy. We tried changing about everything, coils, plugs, fuel stuff, battery, even the car's computer system. A 3 minute alternator swap did the trick. I think Blue Notch had the same problem with his, don't recall exactly.

Before you start replacing parts, do some diagnostics and try to narrow down the issue. Is it electrical? Is it fuel related? What's the voltage when it's running? and Off?
Does it have fuel pressure? Put some gauges on it and see what you have.

Disconnect the battery for about a hour see if resetting the ecu will help. Also believe it or not like mentioned above the alternator can cause this issue. If you go to walmart in automotive section they have a alternator tester for about ten bucks.
