So a basketball hoop landed on my car...

Sorry for posting so many threads recently! But today I went out to drive my car, to see that a basketball hoop was either pushed over or fell onto my car. No dents but the hood and front fender are scratched up pretty decently and definitely need to be repainted. Should I go through insurance or just out of pocket???

Get an auto body quote first and then figure in your deductible. It will probably be more reasonable to just go out of pocket, that way the insurance won't try and raise your rates because of a payout.

I'm gonna get a quote but I'm guessing it'll be around $100-$1500 in repairs and my insurance is a $500 deductible

I meant to write $1000-$1500. And yeah it is so unfortunate :/ not to mention my cars paint isn't perfect so I don't know how they could match it without it looking bad

Yeah it was my basketball hoop :/ I just am wondering now if someone tipped it onto my car on purpose. It hasn't been windy in weeks where I live...

Aw man, that sucks. Sorry to hear that, people are jerks. And could be here, but... without video/pics, we'll never know, I guess.

I figure that would be only around $600-700.

Hmm I don't see how it would be that hard to do. All you do is spray some water/soap mixture on the decal to allow you to move the decal around. Then take a squeegee after the placement is good and remove the water under it allowing the adhesive to attach to the hood. Also helps have less air bubbles. I also would tape the decal in place to ensure it doesn't move while you lay it on.

So like 30 minutes ish time wise.

Only hard part is if the decal comes in one piece and laying it over the opening for the hood scoop without ripping it and keeping everything straight could be aggravating. Could always go through your insurance and have the whole car repainted
