 I have had my 94 GT convertible since it was new and some stuff is starting to wear out. One of the more probelmatic things is that the power driver's seat won't move forward or backward. The motor works fine and it will move up and down. I tried lubing the "gear thingie rod" -- sorry guys - female speak for that thing that turns and actually drives the seat forward and back -- but it does not seem to help -- can anybody tell me how to fix this?

I had to have my 98GT seat fixed not too long ago. It would'nt move at all. There were two different shorts, one under the carpet and one on the switch itself.

Is there any noise associated with it? Grinding of any kind? Metal shavings?

Nope -- other than the soundof the motor -- which is exactly the same if I try to move it up and down (which works fine) or back and forth (which does not). What I have been able to see if that there are two tube/axle type things that extend out from the motor to a mechanism which is attached to the cork-screwlooking part that actually drives the seat back and forth. (Hope you can follow all of this highly technical terminology!) The little axle goes into a bushing sort of thing -- you can se the end of the axle in the center of the round pice with some white grease. When you operate the switch, the motor runs, the axle spins and rotates smoothly inside that little bushing-think, but nothing else happens. Gggrrrrr.

Short of removing the seat and replacing all those parts since I have no idea what's really wrong, anybody have any ideas???

Can you take a picture of it? Even better would be a video. No experience with power seats but will look at mine tommorow and try to figure out a solution for you. Sound like your worm gear (technical man talk) is not attached to the seat. It looks like that may be the problem as you say it turns??? Either way I am sure it can be easily fixed without the seat needing to be removed.

Was the seat all the way back? Might be worth trying to push the seat forward while using the motor. How much did you adjust the seat and how often?
