Anyone kno if this is oil from valve cover gasket or raw fuel?

 

If the plugs were tight, the sludge is below where the plug seals with the head - so it couldn't be from the cam cover gasket. Do you have signs of the cam cover leaking?

Why the rust? Engine wash gets under the plug boot?

 

wow thise are nasty looking. Can you post a better picture of the threaded parts for me/us?
Did the plugs seem tight when you loosened them and while you spun them out?

Sn95 buddy... most likely a 5.0 without coil overs

 

thought sn95's were 4.6 OHC's.

hmm... wiki says not till 96...

says 5.0 pushrod was 94, 95, then 4.6 2V OHC from 96 - 04.

Ya might wanna check your title and make sure it's not a salvaged title. Spark plugs shouldn't have rust on them unless the car has sat. Electric spark repels rust, so there should not be any rust on your electrical components unless it has sat

 

My bad, answered before i checked my info, water has gotten under the boots which you could use boot lube and anti-seize compound on your new plugs. Sorry, never had this problem so I was guessing. But from what I've read this shouldn't happen unless the plugs aren't gapped right or the boot isn't seated right. Or also you could have a head gasket leak

 

And I've had three V-6 3.8's and they are notorious for blowing head gaskets. Ya just can't run the A/C's in traffic it seems for long without burning those head gaskets. Might have something to do with the aluminum heads. I got lucky and mine was under warranty

 

i think its the valve cover gasket. i havnt had the car very long. its been sitting for a few months in cold weather. the plugs werr very difficult to remove. i replaced them with iridium autolite spark plugs. and yes they werr nasty. the previous owner didnt take care of this. so im trying to slowly but surely restore everything back to mint

 

Okay it looks like its too lean or too much oxygen or it's oil fouled. Con you show a pic with the tips?

 

Oh and from what I read you might wanna check your air filter

 

That's one old old old picture its not the air filter. That picture is back when carbs were used. A clogged filter would draw in for fuel from the Carb. Modern injection systems do not do that.

 

My bad, had a drink (or two) last night and saw this thread again and decided to surf a little on it and found a couple of pics. He really should take a pic of the tips and post it though
