The thing with rear ends is the noise will amplify and travel to everything. They are very harmonic and its always the hardest noise to find the exact problem. Normally its the pinion bearings that make noise more than axle bearings. Ive seen many times that people think they have a rear end noise and its actually transmission and the noise travels all the way down the driveshaft and to the axles, sounding like an axle bearing.

I was chasing an axle noise in my 94 for years. Replaced the axle bearings too just to find that it didn't change anything. I wish you luck, but I eventually sold mine before I could figure it out.
