No heat / temp reading Question

Hey all,

I could use some help with a problem I'm having. The heat in my 2001 3.8L is not working and furthermore, the engine temp gauge on my dash does not move, even after long drives. At times, the gauge might move to about 5-10% for brief periods but then return to 0.

When this problem initially started, I had a check engine code P0125. The code went away by itself shortly after but the problem persists. Both the t-stat was replaced and coolant flushed within the last 6 months. Any ideas what the problem could be / where to start?

Many thanks and Happy Holidays.

That code is for insufficient coolant temp so I would say its your coolant temp sensor or it could be something wrong with the wiring

I had one similar years ago and had to fill the coolant by putting a valve on the top heater hose to get all the air out of the system. does your actual heater work as good as normal? Problem went away after force feeding water from the top and chasing all the air out. Might be totaly different situation and good luck with your car.

P0125 is the coolant isn't reaching operating temp quick enough for the PCM to run in closed loop. Normally a t-stat will fix this but if you can read it with a scanner to see what the PCM is seeing for ECT you might be able to verify if the temp sensor is correct. I'm guessing the temp sensor is not working properly. Good luck.

Sorry, I misread your post. No heat probably means your low on coolant or there I air pockets in the coolant. Suspect head gaskets maybe.

Hi all,

Sorry I did not respond sooner. I have put off this issue, since it really does not affect driveability. The heat does not work at all, so I've had some very cold commutes here in New England!

People I've talked to all suspect that the issue lies with the coolant sensor. I'm kinda a dummy when it comes to all things mechanical.

Would anyone be able to help me locate the coolant temp sensor on my 2001 V6? I don't know which sensor is which. Any picture/video would be especially helpful!
