No you don't need to change TB and its not involved at all. you just disconnect a couple vacum tubes, 4 bolts tb and 4 bolts for the plenum to the lower manifold, super easy.

you don't need to change the throttle body, but if you did then more likely than not you would need a tune...

....if you changed the upper and lower intake manifold then you begin messing with fuel/air ratio, necessitating a tune.

Ok, that doesn't sound too bad. Hopefully I'll have enough this summer.

So no tune for just changing the plenum? Someday I think I'll do gears, TB, and a tune. There's so much else I need to do first with both cars though.

Depends on what you were looking at. If you were to replace the upper and lower intake, if it is radical enough, then yes...anything like that, that is going to significantly mess with the air/fuel mixture, will normally call for a tune. I mean the car may still run and may sound fine, but performance may not be the same through the RPM's as they were before making changes. Sometimes the computer in the car can compensate on it's own, but it can only 'teach itself', so to speak, to a certain degree....from what I have learned.

....Sometimes it makes me wish I never got a EFI Mustang, and had just gone with a carburated four-eye fox...

You don't need a tune the mass air meter is designed to adjust fuel amount with increased airflow.

A tune is only for changing spark timing to take advantage of higher octane fuel.

true...a mass air meter can make up for the difference in air flow, but only so far....

....a tune can do more than just change spark timing. It all depends on the situation.

No one ever talked about tunes before the S197s came out. and now ever since the more advanced computer of them and everyone getting great power from tunes.

The Sn95 and older cars can benefit but don't require a tune for every mod like the new cars do.
