Mustang cat safty help
Mustang cat safty help
Have a 2002 mustang gt with a magnaflow dual exhaust and off road xpipe which deletes my two cats. I recently took my vehicle to get a Manitoban safty but they would not pass it with the cat delete. I bought it with this exhaust and do not have the cats. But I don't have the money to get new cats put in for 1 hour and then rip them out again. Just pointless. Anyone ever had this problem before and ideas how to fix? No cats at the salvage yards. Any ideas would be appreciated thanks!
Did they do a visual exhaust check or did it throw a code? You can use MIL eliminators to turn the dash light off if it's on. My car doesn't have cats but it still passed an OBDII inspection. The previous owner said it passes because it has "O2 connectors". I'm still not really sure what he meant though.
Canadian safety inspections require a vehicle that came with cats to have them on, since it is illegal to run a car with no cats, hence why it's called an "offroad" x-pipe. Of course if you have someone you know do the inspection, you can get by. My off road x-pipe has O-2 dummies put in as well, but I do my own inspections, so it doesn't really matter. The only way really to get your car to pass is to put the cats back in, or make friends with an inspection facility.

If you wanted to pass the safety inspection but wanted to stay catless, you could always just find the shells of the cats without all the crap inside of them and weld them in. Since we don't do sniffer tests here in Canada, they wouldn't know the difference.
Just need to make sure you have the MIL eliminators to get rid of the check engine light. Otherwise thats a dead giveaway.
