Gas prices are getting ridiculous. I've got a 99 V6 Mustang that is bone stock except for the K&N filter in the stock airbox. I plan to keep the car for another 3 years or so before I trade it in.
I've changed my driving style and am now getting 22-23 mpg in mixed (mostly rush hour commuting in all its stop & go glory) driving. A year ago, driving the same route, I was getting 19-20 mpg. So just being more conscoius of what I'm doing has given me maybe a 10% improvement. I'm wondering whether some common performance mods would improve gas mileage.
I think an underdrive pulley might help the engine work less. I've also heard from some that a CAI might improve gas mileage. What about switching to synthetic oil? Is this wise on an engine with over 100,000 miles?
Any suggestions? What will give me the best bang for the buck? (and a little boost in the giddyup never hurt nobody, either!)

UD pullies might help 2-3%.. not much IMO. Shorter gears would defintely go further in helping, but then again, to small of a gear ratio and the engine has to work harder because it cant move the car as easy.
A good tune acctually will make a good difference. By altering hte fuel tables for WOT and partial throttle driving, you can conserve alot. Doug at Bamachips.com did mine and my car with 4.10's gets close to 26mpg on the freeway.
