Long tubes in CA

Do we have any CA members with Long Tubes that can still manage to pass the smog test?

The reason I asked this is because I was browsing the Kragen online store, because I got a gift card, and I decided to see what they offered in the way of 2v performance. I clicked on some chrome BBK long tubes (is $447.99 a good price?) part # 1541

In the description I read:

These 1-5/8" BBK full length GT Headers are a direct bolt on.They require the purchase of a short h pipe either off road (1535) or with catalytic convertors (1538).

I know normally when you get long tubes you need a shorter H pipe and I had never seen an H pipe that was short for long tubes that STILL had cats on it. So I looked up part 1538 and saw:

2.5"; High-Flow For Use With 4.6L Long Tube Header System with High-Flow Cats (1996-Current 4.6 GT & Cobra)

BBK's line of hi-flo series mid-pipes offers enthusiasts an affordable and easy way to bolt-on 15-25 horsepower while retaining OEM quality and longevity. Built with fully mandrel bent aluminized tubing all pipes are precision welded and use the highest quality die-stamped flanges for a perfect fit every time.

I'm not about to go buy these just because I see they have cats, plus I don't have the cash right now, but I want to see if there are people that use setups like this that can pass smog in CA

On an unrelated note, how much of a pain is it to get LTs into a New edge? I couldn't for the life of me get em to work in the II, even with a kit designed for that car.

Yeah, LT's would be nice. They're a lot of work though. At least on my cobra, I know I have to jack the motor up a little to get them in there.

There a no go. My friend had a set on his Firebird. First time he smogged it, Failed. You have to run the stock mid pipe on a Mustang. No way around it.

I dunno about high flow cats in general, but in conjunction with LT's, they are out of the Q

that's the whole reason why my car is still registered in Texas and not here in California. I have BBK long tubes and both X-pipes for the setup. Right now, I'm running the o/r X, but I have the catted X for emissions testing (yes, it passes the sniffer and visual in Texas)

oh yeah, Long tubes are a PITA to install. Best way is to drop the K-member. If you get them or any type of headers (JBA shorties are SMOG legal), get a set of Stage 8 locking bolts too. Fnsweet.com had a huge install article for long tubes. The test car was a 2001 Bullitt. Probably the best install aricle I read.

You can remove the factory cats at all in California. Actually, I think you can't do it in any state. Just California enforces it.
