Hey Everybody,

I have a chance to get a 99 35th aniversary edition for pretty cheap. The car has about 130,000 miles on it tho.

I wanted to get everyones opinion about the 4.6 with high mileage. What is your experience? Does the motor handle mileage well? (I know this is all dependant on how the car was driven, but just give me your general opinions if you can). It was a one owner. Oh, and it is an A/T. Interior of the car is very clean as is the exterior, engine sounds good, but I don't want to put 10,00 miles on it and have to replace the engine.

Let me know your experience.

Thanks,

At my friend's shop, I've seen several well maintained 4.6's with 200,000+ miles on them and still running great. He had a 98 Town Car in a few weeks ago for inspection that had 315,000 miles on it. The engine has never been apart. If they get regular oil changes and are not totally abused, they'll go for many miles.

Ive got 140k on my cobra and its going great. Look at all the police and taxi's around hte nation using the 4.6 in severe driving conditions. Its holding up fairly well I'd say. As long as the motor was maintained, it should be fine.

With it being an auto, i'd definitly try and find out how often they had the fluid changed and also if they happened to add a tranny cooler. Both being good things for the life of the tranny

I recently saw a police interceptor and 2 taxis both in junkyards with 4.6 mod motors in them and they had over 215k miles each on each of them and they were only in their due to the transmisson in one and the other was wrecked and the other had a terrible body on it and the rear end was broke, but they all ran!! i say that if it runs good and everything seems alright, buy it.

I am guessing quite a few just since most taxi companies or police departments are not going to put the funds out to swap to a bullitt intake or something else. The only thing I could see done is them getting the upgrade intake from ford that had the aluminum coolant crossover.

yeah i definitely would not worry about the mileage on the 4.6 motor, if it was semi-maintained you should not have any problems. check the car over or have a respected mechanic check it out to make sure everything is in order. sounds ok to me.

That is high mileage, but 4.6L is high quality. It should last for at least another 100,000 miles.

I have been stressing like crazy because I am afraid that by the time I graduate and can afford my Bullitt, I won't be able to find one with low enough mileage.

But you guys are making me feel much better!

theres always someone who doesnt drive their car much. you might pay a higher premium to get the car with low mileage. but they made plenty of the bullitts. and our office has plenty of 4.6 crown vics with lots of mileage on them and they run like champs. the interiors arent in great shape from transporting so many prisoners. but as long as it has been maintained you are good. ask the seller for receipts. i keep all of them for my vehicles

Dont sweat the mileage if the car is in good condition. 133k is just getting broke in good on a mustang.
