Gauges at startup question

Ok, so recently I noticed sometimes at startup my gauges will max out then return to normal. Is this normal or should I be concerned?

If my memory serves me correctly- this is a normal operation of the instrument cluster... Each time the vehicle sits and the ECM and all modules power down ( which can take up to an hour) the cluster will do a full sweep as a self check... I'm sure you notice all the indicator and warning lights come on when you first turn the key on. It's similar to this as they are also just running a self check. It's nothing to be concerned about!

you can go into the test mode using the key, and the gauges will sweep whenever you want them to. Also gives you a digital readout on the odometer of a lot of things including digital rpm and mph figures.

My 01 does this when I first start it. All the gauges max then go right back to normal. When you say it happens sometimes and doesn't other times. Do you think it's possible you're just missing them do it? It happens pretty fast and it happens immediately after it starts.

I watched it every times... in some situations happens and then not... all works great and i have no problems... but why? Maybe the battery voltage? I still have the OEM battery in my car...

It shouldn't happen every time, only if the car's computer has pretty much powered down, i.e. if you unhooked the negative battery cable and left it that way for a few minutes. If it's happening every time you may want to check your battery.

My 03 did it when I ran into problems with my battery terminals. Then one day after I replaced them from having a parasitic drain from them, it stopped doing that.
