Exhaust System

I just recently purchased a 2001 ford mustang gt convertible and i am looking for an exhaust system for it. I want to put a whole new system in headers back. Does anyone have any recommendations for what company to use that will get me the best power return for the buck? Thanks, Tony

Power differences between catbaks will be minimal... my personal favorite catback is the Borla Stinger kit. Magnaflow Magnapacks and SLP Loudmouth are good too- I think the Magnapacks are cheapest (at least in the US).

Then an off-road H-pipe, but you live in the UK so I'd guess you need to keep the cats. And then some good coated long-tube headers- any brand will do.

I would go with a SLP catted X and LM II catback to match, if you want it a bit quieter, go with the Powerflo mufflers. My .02

Since your car is a vert, you may not want the loudness all the time that the stingers and some other catbacks provide.

My recomendation is the magnaflow catted X-pipe and Magnaflow catback. Has great sound when you get on it and keeps a mellow smooth tone when you are cruising.

My SLP Loudmouth is louder than my buddy's Cobra with catted Magnaflow H and Borla Stingers. SLP gets obnoxiously loud with a mid pipe. Ever been to a track and hears those loud cars? SLP with even a catted H/X will be about that loud. (It's b/c they don't use mufflers, they use resonators.)

My SLP was about $250 shipped. Cheapest catback I've seen.

I suggest Magnapack catback, catted magnoflow H-pipe (I like H pipe's sound a lot better, more of a rumble.) I'd go for JBA shorty headers. BBK is already, but I've heard some stories about them not useing the ceramic coating all over, and only a thin layer just to give the appearence.

What about the Loudmouth II, for example? How are those compared to a Magnapack?

The II is a tad bit louder in higher RPMs. Has more of a drone to it. The only thing I don't like about SLP is that at high speeds (80+) the exhaust sounds like a motor boat.

Really? I love the motorboat sound. I like boats.

I have a 01 GT with the older Borla cat-back with the turbo mufflers. Had it with the stock H for awhile. It sounded just like the stock mufflers only a little louder. Later put a SLP catted-X on it and it was that much louder yet but with more throat to it. Sound gos from hard rock while cruising to heavy metal when your "on it".
