exhaust Q's

so if all goes well (my cousin hasn't called me to tell me if he got the car yet) I'll be swapping the solid axle in my bullitt for IRS soon.

I want to upgrade my exhaust while I'm doing that, since I'll need it anyway. I don't have to, and if the stock termy stuff sounds good I might just keep that, but i read somewhere that they're kinda restrictive, and that even the 99-01 cobra catbacks are better.

Any general recommendations would be nice here. I'm still sifting through infinity youtube videos to find a sound i like. for and idea of what i'd like, is something that sounds alot LIKE the bullitt does now, just a bit louder.

I also adore the borla side exhaust on peter's 5.0, but if I got side exhaust I'd need a V6 rear bumper cuz I dont want the cutouts just sittin there :-\ And his is a 5.0 so it'd sound differn't anyway

Also, how worth it (if at all) would it be to cut and weld the original bullitt mufflers/tips to my termy exhaust? Because I absolteuly love my brushed tips and my current sound and I hate chrome to the max.

while I'm at it, what cobra exhaust systems have brushed tips?

sigh, Arin is longwinded.

thanks guys

Pretty darn cool on the swap. I have been keeping an eye out and may travel down the IRS road . . . . but may take the Panhard Blvd. exit!

If you keep the stock exhaust for a while, MRT (http://store.mrt-direct.com/94b001.html) has some brushed tips.

I know (and have read) a number of people that have welded in mufflers/tips, etc. I assume it is cheaper than an all new cat-back system (or at least certain ones.)

I am a sucker for Borla Stingers (and have decided on a Bassani Catted X-Pipe), but have heard many different setups that sound great!

I guess you could put those mufflers in there and if ou wanted it louder just get an O/R H pipe. and when emmisions come up put the stocker back on like me lol. But i preffer an O/R H and a mac catback or O/R H and flowmaster catback (Am. thunder) but sincd you live in cali you might not be able to do that.

I wish I had the coin for a painted V6 rear bumper so I could get the borla sidepipes like Petes though... sigh, oh well

What about the Roush or CDC covers?

I think the Roush parts look best with the whole kit. That being said, I'm thinking about putting them on my V6 though, and doing some kind of custom center exit where the little "diffuser" part is, painting it flat black and painting whatever tips I go with flat black too. Kinda like the Corvettes or M3. I think the current Acura TL tips would look good there.

Sorry to get off topic, but yeah like I said in your other thread, I think you should definitely go with the MRT tips, as they are bigger than the stock Bullitt ones. Again, I recommend Bassani for sound on the SN95s. Catted X and catback. Get the BX system to save money and have the MRT tips installed. Arin, are you on CA-Mustangs? Minute Muffler in Dublin does good work and he is good friends with the owner/president of CA-Mustangs, and he hooks us up. He did a complete catback for me for $200 (not including my Force mufflers from Jegs but they're only like $35 a piece) and also installed my JBA Headers for $150.

I'm very much leaning towards rear exit with MRT tips, still not sure on what catback yet though

I really like the sound of Magnaflows, they have the most old school muscle sound I've heard to date, of course this is all on the webernet so who knows

alot of people reccomend SLP LM IIs, and I like them but I'm worried they'll be too loud all the time

I'm not on CA-Mustangs, and Dublin is a wee bit out of the way for me lol. I've got a good show here in Redwood City that I go to. He did the exhaust/motor mounts/transmounts/etc on the II and If I ever have a shop working on my car again, it'll be them.

But that is some good prices on that install Too bad I'd offset the savings with just gas lol

You cannot go wrong with Magnaflow in my opinion.

Gotcha. There is a guy on CA-M that I used to hang out with. He has the SLP LM-IIs on his GT. Definitely a nice sound and not too loud IMO. I like the sound of Magnaflows at WOT, but I don't like their sound at part-throttle or idle. Don't sound balsy enough for me. I absolutely love everything about Bassanis though. I think you should head over to CA-Mustangs and join up and go to some get-togethers. They have get togethers every week and you can hear other people's set-ups.
