So, I'm about to buy an '03 Cobra from a private owner, and she's not nearly loud enough, to the point where I can't hear her when I shift. So I want her to be louder, but maybe also get some extra performance from her.
I was reading online about x-pipes and cats as far as performance goes, and there was a bunch of mixed messages, so it didn't do me much good. Some people were crazy about them, and others said they actually were just loud and that was about it. So it just made me more clueless.
Just wondering if anyone out there has a Cobra that they have put an x-pipe on and how it went...or any suggestions for me on what to do with the exhaust that would make her louder, but not too loud, while not taking away from performance. Thanks!

Welcome to the site Lindsay.

I've been around a few 2003/2004 cobra's that have full exhaust on them. One of the loudest cars I have ever been in has the borla stinger catback and a MAC o/r prochamber for the mid-pipe. Good sound, but insanely loud.

I think the nicest sounding cobra I've been in had magnaflow catted x-pipe, and the magnaflow cat-back. It had a deep smooth tone, not to loud when cruising, but when you got on it, it opened up and sounded great. I wish I had sound clips for you.

I am about to switch to a magnaflow catted x-pipe on my 96 cobra, and I can't wait.

Don't have a Cobra, but have a Mach with the DOHC. I have the Borla Stingers on mine. Very loud when you get on it, but a nice burble at idle. My catted H is stock right now.

I'll be going to a catted h-flo H from MRT within the next few weeks. X's (so I've heard) give a bit more power, but not sure I'm a fan of the sound.

Thanks, guys...
Hey, Scothew, you're going to have to let me know how the exhaust on the '96 goes...maybe hear a sound byte from that, bet she'll sound sweet!!
Yea, I'll probably go with an x-pipe, because I don't want her to be insanely loud, just give me that nice purr that sets off the alarms in parking garages!!
Hmmm, yea, I like the sound of an h-pipe too, but that's what she's got now...so I think the x will be it...I'll get some sound clips for you guys when she's all done...and I'm probably going to be going and getting her tommorow or the next day...YAY! I'll post some pics for you guys...

I'll be doing a write up on the magnaflow X-pipe.

Here's a video of my car with the o/r h-pipe and magnaflow mufflers.

Very nice, that Mystichrome Cobra is Gorgeous!!!

I'm very curious to see how the exhaust on this '03 snake will turn out. Always loved the sound of flowmasters over everything else, but the DOHC does sound different than my 2V. Especially since it's boosted. Should be interesting. . .

Lindsay, I'm tempted to offer to get ya a variety of systems on that car just to see what they all sound like...hehehe

Wouldn't do it if I didn't love ya!!!

FYI: Mines not MysticChrome. That was the name of the 2004 Mystic style cobra's. The 1996 version is just called Mystic.

I have the borla stingers on mine with the stock H-pipe, i love the way the car sounds very loud on acceleration but once you reach cruiseing speed 60-70mph i gets quiter. there is some drone but not excesstive. as far as O/R or catted x or h pipes i've heard a lot of mac catted x's and they are wicked loud from the outside especially when WOT. I personally am going with the MRT catted H-pipe. I all depends on how you are going to drive this car will it be a daily driver or weekend duty.

Hey, it will probably be a daily driver...i have another car, also, but I don't think I'm going to be able to resist driving her every single day...
So, I don't want her to be insanely loud, but I do want to hear her, you know? So I'll probably just go ahead and try the x-pipe and just see how loud it'll be...hey, I have money to play around with! (This one was directed at you Nate!!)
Don't be angry, I only do this because I love you back!!!
Hee-hee...thanks for the info, ta2d1...

You'd better love me. I think we should start with a catted X-pipe with a flowmaster cat-back. Just remembered something. We aren't gonna be able to do the side exit exh on yours unless we remove your subframe connectors. sorry.
