cai question

I was thinking of getting a cold-air set up. Would i really notice a change in performance/sound of the engine? my friend got a cold air for his car(3.5 v6) and it sounds alot healthier now and gave him some pickup at around 4000 rpm

Yes you would. Expecially if you have an exhaust.

Yea, it would help. And you'll definately notice the open element sucking air.

Just out of curoiusity, what are you looking for out of your car performance wise??

It would help loads if we knew what you wanted out of the car. Some believe certain combos work better than others. Also, if you plan on having any type of forced induction, just hold off on the cai, you'll get one with the s/c.

That's exactly where I was headed with my question. If you want to S/C down the road, don't waist the time, and money putting a lot of N/A mods on. Trust me, I spent all that money to go fast N/A, and would probably have saved money if I had just waited a little longer and saved up for the S/C from the beginning.

The only perf mod on my 05 is the K&N AI. I have gained some in HP, car sounds a little better, but best of all, I swear I can feel her BREATHE now. Especially with a full tank of gas, she accelerates much better, seems to glide over the road. Now, I dont know if thats all AI, but there is defintely a difference between pre and post installation.

Performance wise I just want to buy simple bolt-ons I can do in my drive way and make my car a little quicker. I don't plan on racing my car and as for a s/c I don't think it would be a smart investment for a 17 year old with no job to buy a s/c. I havent added any performance mods yet, the previous owner removed the air silencer and added a magnaflow catback

AH!!!!

Well then...This is what you should get... CIA, Mid-pipe, lower her, and if she's an auto, get a Jerry Mod. That will make you feel a whole lot more pull when you floor her. It's it's a manual, get new gears rather than the J-Mod. Wait till Scothew comes on, he'll read you the modding bible! Brands and all!

she is an auto so I am considering the j-mod but I am a little intimidated drilling into my transmission. I did some reasearch but most of the stuff I found was for t-birds with the j mod. As for a CIA its between a bbk or the MAC. Once I am satisfied with it's straight line performance I'll move on to getting springs and maybe lower conrol arms

Just to give you an idea on mods, and numbers, a CAI, pulleys , SCT tune, 70mmT/B with Plenum, and exhaust put me at the 262RWHP/302RWTQ mark when I was N/A.

You should just buy a flash tuner rather than having a chip. Saves money if you tune her again at a later date. Or if you decide on a different setup later on.

I'd go with... DID go with CAI and exhaust as round 1. There is a slight difference in the way she breathed and worth every cent for the sound and the visual, but mainly ANY gains that were to be had.

Off topic for a sec. - Why does it say V6 Member under my Username... Love V6's, but I have a blown 4.6. ???

When you get to 100 posts, it says GT member, and at 250 posts (I think), it goes to Bullitt member

I think at 500 you'll get to Mach 1 status!

I think the titles go along with the site... don't you?
