Bet your amps are low. Have the alternator tested for amps.

Why don't you just disconnect the battery while it's running for a few minutes? If the alternator is bad the car will die? Or have you tries that already?

 

Think its supposed to be a 90 amp alternator.

 

So under drive pulleys is a bad idea

No. Ford discourages this. The modern day cars with computing modules can be damaged by a car stalling when disconnecting the battery. Most modern cars will die immediately if you disconnected the battery even when it has a perfect alternator. Just don't do it. Were not back in the 70s here.
