I'm lookin at a Kenne Bell kit once I'm done with bolt PBS and what not. Boost is last on the list. Ive heard sub-frame connectors are one of the best mods for handling? I'm focusing on handling first then gonna add big power. Just lookin for some opinions from everyone who's got a lol racing experience

If you want good on road and autocross then you don't need boost. It will hurt you more then it will help, especially in autocross. Check out Maximum Motorsports or Griggs and look at their handling packages. You will get pretty much everything you would need out of those and be very competitive in events. Leave the motor last, without a good suspension setup, too much power will just hurt you.

Food for thought, I have a stock v6 motor in my autocross car. I've done some suspension mods, not a lot but some and I'm able to beat cars with twice the horsepower as me.

Thanks for the advice. But yea I want to focus on handling first. I mean, you can have all the power in the world but if you cant put it to the ground then it's no use

Make it look nice. Ride good. Get all cheap mods first udps, cai, TB, then u should have enough left for cams and maybe exhaust. Start slow a blower is a lot of work An other things to go with it that are necessary. That way it'll look good sound good and ride good. Then throw a big ole kenne belle under the Hood when you have money saved. Or even a used vortech. 1500-2000

I believe I said forced induction is last on the list earlier
But yea I'm focusing on everything that deals with handling. I'm thinkin h&r super sport springs, idk what setup for shocks/struts, strut tower brace, anti-roll and sway bars, and sub-frame connectors.

This is what I would do http://www.maximummotorsports.com/st...roducts_id=964.

Thats a really good start.

Then add some cobra brakes and you'll be in a good spot.

And 1999Pony, it says this is a customizable kit so does that mean I can change what brand parts are in there? For example, instead of tokicos can I switch out for eibachs?

Sell the gt and take the $5k and buy yourself a cobra. You will never get your $5k back out of that gt. Not trying to be harsh or anything.

The gt is very well taken care of, still has original paint job, 34,000 miles and new tires (BF Goodrich g-force sport plus) and rims still look brand new, very small sections of curb rash from previous owner.

How much do y'all think it would go for?

I don't think they sel eibachs but you could probably swap them out for a set of bilsteins

For autox and road racing I would take the gt over a cobra. With 5k in suspension, a stock gt would eat a cobra on a road course. The IRS is truely its downfall. Its good for the street but imo a nice sla is a lot better.

I've heard bilsteins are good but expensive. I suppose you get what u pay for tho. And isn't the IRS supposed to be better for handling? The solid axle is much better suited for straight line performance while IRS is meant for taking turns.

In some cases yea. The cobra irs was designed more to fit then to perform well. Don't get me wrong, stock for stock the irs is better. But is you build both then the difference is very slim with the lead going to the irs. But you are going to spend more to get it there.

This is just my personal opinio. I have researched a lot on this subject bc I was going ot go irs in my car, but after I looked more into it I decided against it.

Go to youtube and search Griggs GR40 'ustang. Their cars are sla and are on rails

The IRS is great as far as road handling is concerned but is limited by how much power it can handle. Built an IRS is far better for the real world roads however it costs a pretty penny to get it there. An IRS is not a drag friendly rear

All I am putting in is that subframe connectors, good ones that are boxed steel, welded in, and put on right, is the best investment you can do on your car. They will help the overall rigidity of the car, helping keep the car straight and rattle free, also will help with handling and will be the basis for your suspension upgrades.

Do it even if you just street drive your car and never push it to its limits.

Yea sub frames are the first thing I'm getting once I drop the car. Probably just gonna get that handling pack and get bilstein instead of tokico shocks/struts. And once I start having enough time to go to more autox and road race events then I'll make little tweaks here and there. Drag racing is fun but nothing really tests your skill like road racing does
