All:

I'm curious to know if it's worth it to get the XM Radio setup? The stations here in Idaho kinda stink, but am wondering what others' opinions are.

Also, how hard are they to hook up to the factory stereo? I have the Shaker 500 in my 05 V6 Mustang..

Lastly, any recommendations for an XM Radio receiver?

Thanks and glad the forums are back!!

I'm interested in this subject too. How does the XM receiver attach to a Shaker 500?

Why don't you guys use an FM Modulator, so you don't have to worry about hard-wiring anything to your Shaker? Same goes for iPods too. I assume XM receivers have the option to use an FM Mod....

Being a SOF, I'm very old school on this one. If I can hard wire in an accessory, eliminate the need for an FM Modulator, and preserve the signal quality, I will.

Perhaps how the dreaded "Aux Button" will be used with the XM receiver will be know soon, also an argument in the favor of hard-wiring it.

I heard that Sirius and XM maybe merging. I am curious to see if it is allowed since it will create a monopoly in sat. radio.

Hey Emilee How are you??? Are you up to your neck in snow up there? Boise is just cloudy no sun now for like 3 weeks

Back to the topic on the XM thing, I am not sure if the shaker system has an RCA cable jack or not but I believe you can run it through that if you are going for a portable XM unit...

hah yeah, snow isn't too bad, it's been pretty warm up here actually... i think it's compacted down to about 2 1/2 feet. I've been going down to boise on the weekends... though no sun it's still nicer than here i think. Still waiting on my 05 and going insane.

hey, a dealer guy told me that the shakers can recieve the satellite radio without putting the external cradle thing on the dash... he said you can just put something in the trunk and run it through the stock stereo. True or bs?

They don't have RCA. There's a couple of threads on this in the Interior/Audio Upgrades section. Ford multi-pin connectors, and no information on whether digital control info is being passed back and forth or not, so connecting externals is an "experiment at your own risk" situation.

Even with the pinouts on a diagram (also posted somehwere) there's no guarantee that it will work, or that you won't fry your Shaker system when you try.

I have installed XM in my 05. And yes I love it. No I did not have it added to my shaker 1000. I had so many problems with it I had an after market stereo installed and said goodbye to the shaker and the headaches. The Shaker was a complete wast of time and money on this car. One of the only things I can find to complain on the 05.

I just saw an update that says XM and Serius have stopped talks of merger.

Thanks to everyone who posted. I ended up going with the Roady2 unit. So far I have been pretty happy with the unit. The installation was easy, although, I'm not sure that I liked where I put the controlling unit.

I ended up placing it between the two front vents. It looks very nice, but I don't know. Just got that "hmm, should I have really put it there" kind of feeling. :

Anyhow, I'll snap some pictures tomorrow when the sun is out (at least, I hope will be out).

I have XM Satellite Radio in my Audi and I love it! It is way better than ordinary radio. Most of the channels are commercial free and you can drive cross-country and still keep listening to the same station. I've discovered a lot of great music by being a subscriber. I'm kind of surprised Ford didn't just hardwire the Shaker system with a "SAT" button so you could install it as an option. Perhaps later.

The other thing you will notice is that you will hardly ever listen to your CDs again! And no, I don't have stock in XM but I wish I did now!

I can't speak for Sirius but the newer XM units, like the Roady2, come with FM modulators built in so you don't need a special cable. The older units, however, use a power cord that doubles as a FM modulator and some even use those funky old fashioned cassette adapters.

LOL ditto on the bad stations in Idaho...my grandparents live in SE Idaho, and between bigger towns I loved pulling the "Let's push the seek button and watch the stations cycle all the way around" trick.

I just got XM in my stang (custom stereo, so no install tips), and I really like it. I was afraid that I would be paying for something I really didn't need, but the stations are pretty good.

What custom stereo did you get? I've been pretty happy with the Roady2 with one exception. The fact that I am using the FM Modulator to transmit the music to my stereo leaves a LOT to be desired for quality.

I'm thinking I may take it back and exchange it for a head unit.
