I was walking out of the local Bestbuy and I noticed a red GT parked on the outskirts of the Parking lot in Woodbridge, VA. I was like...darn nice color. I used to have that color. I was checking it out and then I noticed it. It was like a scratch you can see from miles away. I saw this thin black bar running horizontally where the rear view mirror usually sits, but it was as wide as the whole winshield. I was like WTF is that?? First thought was that it was cop lights. So I checked it out....nope...I didn't see any lights from looking at it through the front windshield. Then I went to the drivers window and looked through the window and I saw it........A HUGE rear view mirror!!!! I mean, WTF, or who was that for....then it hit me....This has to be a girls car.

Has any one ever seen a rear view mirror as wide as the whole windshield?? If so, why???

I've seen them in a few places: Driver's Training cars for functional reasons and on some cars where people were doing it just for a look.

Those used to be really popular on ricers in the 80s... is this what you saw? They are called Wink Panoramic Rear View mirrors, and back in the day, you just werent cool without one!!! LOL

Before I get flamed, that was here in Cali, and I am talking about the Mini Truck clubs, and those guys, k? I was a MEMBER, so I can say it.

Yeah I think that was what it looked like, but I don't think it was sectioned off into sections like that. I think it was just one big straight mirror... ROTFL!

Those are for a better view to make sure there are no cops behind you. When drinking a beer or smoking a joint.

As Franco would say:

First rule of Italian driving, "What's a behind me is not important".

Nix the mirror.

That must be annoying at night, expecially if you have a truck or something else higher up than your car behind you.

Somone thinks they are a nascar driver. That's where those huge rear view mirrors came from.

Yup, definitely a ricer thing. My buddy used to have one on his 92 Camry along with a huge fart cannon.

Yeah! Wink mirror. I had one on my lowered 1986 Nissan pickup truck with hydraulic scissor/dump bed and tricked out stereo back in the 80's! Don't see many of them today, 'cept maybe in NASCAR. They do provide a heck of a rear-view but most of the time at the expense of sun-visors.

Roger that...I think I could find ads for this abomination in the back of any number of '60's-'70's car magazines in the basement. I can't recall ever having seen one actually installed in a street car...thankfully.

Back in high school, a buddy of mine had a Isuzu Impulse(remember those) it had one of those from the factory. Weird, but you could see everything behind you.

I've used the WINK mirrors and Panaoramic mirrors in my racecars but not on the street - I would think it to be excessively annoying at night. On the track they were great and allowed you to keep track of your traffic. Unlike NASCAR racing, SCCA Club Racing has numerous (up to 8) classes on the track in the same race group. While you may be faster than 4 classes, there may be 3 classes that are faster than you and are overtaking you in corners or anywhere else on the track.
To not know or car where your traffic is - is a recipe for disaster and a lot of expense...

These may be horrible, but the "Worst accessory" title in my book would HAVE to go to the '05 GT that I passed the other night with an elderly couple driving and one of those fuzz covered plastic bobbing head dog statues doing it's thing in the rear window
