Why is changing the Shaker head units so confusing?

It seems like the more I read the more confused I'm getting because I'm seeing so much conflicting info.

I'll try to keep my questions as simple as possible so maybe I can get simple answers that my small brain can understand.

My shaker head unit is toast and I need something new. This seems like a nice unit at a fair price

http://www.crutchfield.com/p_113DDX3...?cc=02&tp=5684

If I buy it through crutchfield it includes

Metra 99-5807 In-dash Receiver Kit

the Wiring Harness

and

Axxess AFDI-5V 12 to 5 volt converter that according to them.... "eliminates the turn-on "thump" in Ford-built vehicles with amplified systems"

So that should be all I need right?

But if you read this

http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/200...urfactoryradio

it says
you'll need a special adapter in order to connect your new car stereo into the Ford amps that run the woofers in the doors (and in the trunk with the Shaker 1000 system).

So do I need that adapter or Not? My understanding is that the Axxess AFDI-5V will drop the voltage from 12 to 5

So do i need the $99 adapter or not? Has anybody done a write up or video on this install?

I think you should find another unit. This unit is discontinued. There are others that will fit right into the S197's without much problem. Looking at the hook up, I'd go with another model that had separate sectioning for the speakers. This one has all RCA plugs in the back and you would have to do some serious wiring. JMO of course.

Thanks, I'm open to all suggestions as long as it's around that price and has similar features. Also, do you know if I need that special hundred dollar adapter?

You DO NOT need that stupidly expensive adapter. You will need the voltage regulator though

Just figure I'd give a quick update.

Went to crutchfield and got the AVH-X1500 for $220 shipped and it came with everything I needed. The Axxess AFDI-5V voltage converter worked perfectly. And it was a simple 1 hour install and most of that time was spent soldering and heat shrinking wires.

Not the best pic but here is the unit installed

btw- that head unit is absolutely amazing. Loaded thousands of songs on a thumb drive and hooked it into a cable i installed in the center console. This way I never even have to worry about cd's since most of my music is digital anyways. The Dvd player and back up camera are also awesome.
