Where to have Carroll sign?
I thought about the sunvisor, Jeff. I had just wanted something a bit more visible and I've seen so many dashes with Carroll's signature, I just wanted one for myself. I think I may try and remove the airbag myself, as the Ford dealer wanted $109/hr in labor. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
Point taken, Leo. My car isn't a Shelby because, like most of us, I can't afford one. Mr. Shelby is as close to a living legend as we Ford fans have, and he isn't getting any younger. Maybe I'll have a "real" Shelby someday, but Carroll will be long gone and won't be there to sign it. I just wanted to get his signature while he's still kicking. I never try to pass my car off as something it isn't, but his signature will be a nice touch for a GT as well.

You guys may want to read this, it may change your opinion of dear old Mr. Shelby.

Ok, that took awhile, but I've read through most of the content, and the many related links that took me all over. There is an especially long discussion on Club Cobra that includes Amy Boylan, and I think she handled herself admirably. I haven't changed my opinion of Carroll at all. Yes, he has some issues, maybe personal, with SAAC, but I still don't see the almighty dollar as the only incentive for the formation of Team Shelby. SAAC will continue, just with limited rights from Shelby. Team Shelby will be aimed primarily at the new cars, with the 60's cars welcome. And I still think that a signature would make a nice addition to my car. I'm still nervous about removing that air bag though...
Get it while he's still kickin. I'll never forget meeting Jack and how nice he was
he signed free for about 2 or 3 hours. I've gotten many compliments on the sig. It's your car and if thats what you want ,then go for it

Another thing, I went to a show this past July in my area held by the local SAAC club, and the attitude was VERY standoffish. I went with my buddy (and customer) who has a PJ and another who brought his custom Mystic colored 69 Mach1. Whenever someone came over to my car, and I tried to start up a conversation ( I can talk cars with anyone for hours, and love doing it), they didn't want to chat and walked away! Not a friendly atmosphere IMO. I really want to attend SAAC 33, but only for the chance to run my car on the road course of Thunderbolt Raceway! I'm glad SAAC is getting its just dues. They now know they aren't the only game in town.
Ok, the airbag is out, and the center vent piece is out. Ford couldn't have made that much harder to do. I'm a big guy, and there is just no room in the pasenger floor board. The plastic clips along the top of the airbag were a bugger, but it shouldn't be a problem getting it back in. (I hope) Anyway, thanks for the comments. I went about this the hard way, I know, but I'll post pics of the sig and me with Carroll. The fund raiser is tommorrow evening, Dec. 1, and I'm really looking forward to it.

Well, I got it! Whole story posted here: http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showthread.php?t=74332
Now I gotta put the car back together again.

Mission accomplished! The airbag turned out not to be that big of a deal. It was just all the safety hype about handling it that had me nervous. Six coats of matte clear on the vent piece, and you can't even tell it's been painted. The sheen is just perfect, and hopefully the signature will be protected. I'm glad I attempted the project, as it was definitely worth it.
