are you using the seatback mounted fold lever or the one on the side of the lower cushion(the adjuster one)? Older mustangs did not loose thier position if you use the lever on the back of the seat. I never let anyone in on the driver side either.
I've used the one on the back of the seat, and it loses position.

I agree though...small thing to worry about. I understand the gripe, but oh well.

Since I don't have my car yet, guess I can't really add much to this discussion but something comes to mind with this subject that I will throw out. Another thread mentioned that the Stang does not come with an automatic dimming rear view mirror like a BMW. My expectations for this car are high but confined to the overall quality (paint, sheet metal alignment, etc) and the performance of the engine, drivetrain, suspension, brakes). Has the Mustang ever really had a "large" trunk, or all those luxury features like auto temp control and so on? If FORD added another $5K to the base - then it could have all these features but IMO.........not sure I would want it!

I noticed that too yesterday, and it was driving me up the wall, although I only got into the back once and then sat in the front, both passenger side. I can understand why they did it after having read TampaBears explanation, but nonetheless it is annoying.

Everyone with an 05 who doesn't like the seat design get on the phone to Ford (1-800-392-3673[FORD]) and tell them you don't like it.
That way, hopefully, next year's car won't do it.

After reading your post I don't think you will ever be happy with an 05. Why don't you leave the 05 for someone else that would be real happy with it and go purchase another german higher quality car. I understand there is no waiting line at those dealers. There may be a german car forum that interest you also.

Mongoose =

My point was that the reason I do want the Mustang is because of what it offers - was not looking for the other stuff.

The way I read Mongoose's post was he was saying it's not a luxury car so it should NOT have all the extra stuff. He wasn't saying he didn't like the car because it didn't have all those extra features.
Maybe I'm wrong. It wouldn't be the first time.

The seat on my Escort has that 'position return' thingie so your seat stays where you last had it.....

And I'm still counting the minutes till the new GT shows up and I can sell that stinker...

I'm just gonna be 'difficult' - anyone wants a ride in the backseat, get in on the passenger side!!

(hopefully they will fix this in later models - although with the acheivement of improving space in the backseat of the car, which I know was a BIG thing for the designers to pull off (see the '40 Years of Fun - Mustang' book from Target), I can see the saving the passengers knees concept is most definitely what they were after)

Is there a separate seatback release lever as opposed to the seatback adjustment lever? My Probe GT, an earlier Flatrock, Mich. Alliance product had two separate levers, one a release and the other for adjustment and perhaps the Mustang, now an Auto Alliance product (or whatever they call them out of that plant) use a similar arrangement.

I have found this problem to be annoying also. My '99 and '02 Mustangs' seats returned to the prior setting after using the lever to gain access to the rear. I try to avoid reaching the rear seats from the drivers side on my '05 because of this, as I find it imprecise to find my exact recline setting on my seat afterwards.

What's the BIG DEAL? Are we all getting so Lazy that reaching down to adjust a leaver is SO MUCH of a CHORE for us? If you don't want to have to readjust your seat all the time, DON'T MOVE IT! Keep All Passengers in the Right Front Passenger Seat, and Put all your Crap in the Trunk where it Belongs anyway.
Tampa Bear-

Wow, it would be nice if I could just make my passengers disappear....

I have 2 kids that ride in the car daily. This is a minor gripe for me, the car is too fun for me and the kids to consider using my Explorer for the daily drive instead.

Also, using and re-suing the ratchet assembly on this seat is likely to lead to earlier wear and tear. The kids raise the seat, it jumps up to the default position (hits the detents on the ratchet), then they hit it again.

I'd like Ford to fix this so it works like 90% of the rest of the mechanical seat rests in the industry. Heck, just make it work like past years of Mustangs.

I agree, it is annoying. I usually have to access the back seat from the driver side from time to time. I have the seat back far enough that I can't reach between the seat and the door frame, so I have to pull the seat forward. And if I us the passeneger side, then I have to listen to my wife complain that she has to find the previous settings.

maybe i'm missing something (never owned a mustang before) and maybe been unlucky with all the cars I have previously owned, but it seems to me that whenever I have moved the front seat forward to access the back seats, I have always had to re-adjust the front seat to get it back to where it was.

The seats in my; 97 T-bird, 01 Grand Am, 95 Mustang, 85 Pulsar, and 76 Mustang never had to be re-adjusted after leaning it forward.

In order to get the seat to return to the original position you have to hit the leaver a second time. Like Jason said its so you don't squash your passenger.

What Jason says makes sense and now every time I go through this extra sense I won't get annoyed. If they had only stated this in the owners manual and spun it as it should be "positive marketing" I would of thought this feature was neat, an added bonus that this feature was built in. Absent of them stating this I thought it was a design flaw not an added feature. Thanks Ford!

I too was annoyed at first, thinking I was doing something wrong. But, it is explained in the owners manual (I was thinking it should go back to where it started, so I looked it up..) Anyway, because I'm so-o-o-o-o biased about this car and absolutely cannot find fault with it, I have decided that it now makes more sense to adjust it anytime I get into the back for any reason. So now, I'm pretty much reaching automatically for the lever on the back of the seat (near the top) and I mostly know where it needs to be set to. So, no problem here!
