No... I think we have resigned ourselves to the stupid speed error. I'm not about to drop $300+ on a 2007+ gauge cluster to get rid of the error.

I have an early 2005 that had the cluster replaced Dec 07(Bad Temp).

I will be willing to test a unit if somebody wants to send me one......

Mark did you get yours working other than the speed error?

Does anyone know which wire in the radio harness belongs to the speed sensor? Is there a wiring diagram available?

There is no wire in the radio harness for VSS. The radio gets its speed data off the medium speed data bus. It comes from the instrument cluster and thus the root of the incompatibility between the Nav unit and the earlier clusters.

For those of you unsure of the speed error we're talking about, when you switch to map view the first time, you will see an error screen that you have to pass thru before you can see the map or use any of the functions. This is one time while the car is running. So every time you start the car and go to map (or if it's already on the map) you will see this screen. It is just a warning that some functions may not be available. Then if you go into diagnostics to look at the code that's causing this, it's for the vehicle speed sensor. Other than having to hit "OK" every time you get in the car and use your map, the only other side effect is that the system won't know you're moving until the GPS signal is aquired, where if you had it, the system could show your cursor moving on the screen, say in a tunnel, or a parking garage or something.

It now looks like this is a problem in the Instrument cluster, not the nav unit, and that the instrument cluster isn't sending a recognizable signal to the nav. At least one person has seen this go away with a newer instrument cluster, but another person tried the new cluster and still gets the error.

I can't get specifics on the error screen or error code at the moment, my nav unit is on it's way to H&H for reprogramming.

Actually its not even that bad. The nav system does not use the VSS at all. It uses an internal gyro to determine movement while gps pings are not available. I have the VSS error and it tracks movement of my car in the large underground parking garage at our Greenway Plaza office just fine.

As far as I can tell, after a year of use. The only thing the VSS signal effects is the error message and the speed sensitive volume adjust does not work. All nav functions seem to work fine. Even the ones where it will not let you access certian menu options while moving.

Yours is working better than mine then. My nav would rotate around the spot I started in, but wouldn't move until it picked up the GPS signals and figured out my location. I've actually started the car at home, and gotten 4-5 miles away before my location changed on the GPS.

Been thinking about putting my antenna in a different location when I get the system back. I had just stuck it to the top of the stereo, but I've been thinking about running it back to the rear deck and mounting it under there. Have to find an antenna with a long enough cable though.

Mine also does not start to move until it picks up the GPS satellites.

+1... I have to wait for the "no GPS" indicator to go out - then my map updates to my current location.

Yes, mine does the same when starting out. Will not move the map indicator until the GPS is aquired. However, once aquired, if it is lost momentarily it keeps tracking. Like after I get to the office and drive underground.

Move your antenna to the flat underside of the dash so that there is no metal above it and a clear view of the sky through the windshield. The factory places them above the instrument cluster. I placed mine above the two center vents and it works pretty good. Can even aquire a GPS signal while inside my garage at home though the wood and shingle roof.

I am having my cluster changed out in the morning. Just out of curiosity I plugged the new one in when I got it. It worked, as far as the guages goes, but I still got the error on the radio. I also had a tire pressure monitor fault. Which the 06s do not have. Will let you know what happens after the data is transfered from my old cluster.

Just got back from the Dealer and it is a no go. I still get the error. so evidently the problem is deaper in the coding that just at the cluster. It would be interesing to compare the pin outs of the pre nav and nav mustangs. It would be great if it was just a wiring change. Probably not that lucky.
