K just some general questions to see if you guys can solve it real fast. Does anyone know if there is a double din dash kit that will work with the 05s? I know theres a single din with a pocket, but Id much rather prefer a flush double before I go and start fiberglassing.
Also, what have you guys been using as grounding points for amps in the trunk? And where have you guys been mounting? Is there a good ground right inside the dash for the HU (I havent opened it up yet)?

Alright, whats goin in:

Alpine 9833
Infinity Kappa 692.5I (6x9)s Fronts
Infinity Kappa 692.5I (6x9)s Rears
Hifoncis Olympus XI 125x4 RMS Componet AMP
JL Audio 12w6v2
Audiobahn A1801T 400.1 AMP

The only concern I have is mounting depth on the front doors. Ive seen some people say they have 3.5" space based on the 8" subs, but I havent been able to find whats alloted for the midrange. Ill set up kickpanels and space it if I have to I suppose, I was just hoping it wouldnt come down to that. Im waiting on a new wiring harness to come in for the HU and to see what I can find in terms of dash kits, then its all going in. So right now, Im looking at perhaps Sunday night or next Monday when I have some free time. Thoughts, opinions, answers?

Why not run a component setup if you are spending that much money? and unless you do some modding, the 6x9's won't fit. The opening in the front and back are 5x7 or 6x8 if I am not mistaken. Also, crutchfield has the mountind depth for all speakers, just call them up and ask. I don't have the numbers offhand.

If I had the money to blow, I would do a customer 3 way component setup in the front, wich 8" midbass, 6.5" midrange and a tweeter with an active crossover. But then again, I don't have the money so that's not a problem.

It almost sounds like you want to put the 6x9's where the 8" space is? If that is the case you might run into problems since the tweeters are at your feet.

Dunno, I just don't have a clear picture of what you are intending to do with that setup.

All I know about stereos is what my husband has told me... and he told me that the Kenwood system I am looking to drop in is a double din.

I doubt that helped much, LOL but, I thought I would throw it out there.

Lets see here..

Dash kit I am not sure what ya mean, if you are asking about a dash kit that will adapt a single din head unit to fit in the 05 without a pocket, I haven't seen one.

Yes there is a ground for the head unit.

I mounted my amps in a custom amp rack tucked in the right hand side of the trunk, just pull up the carpet and drill a hole for your ground there.

That sub is going to require a pretty large box, no way it will fit anywhere in the door panels as I am sure you know If you don't care about trunk space then you can just build a standard box and drop it in, but if you need trunk space its gonna be a bear, the way the back area slopes downward from the back seats pretty much negates any kind of setup where you jam the box against the back seats. I had to get a custom fiberglass box built and molded to the left side of the trunk, which will probably be your only option, if you need trunk space that is.

6x9 wont work, your gonna need 5x7 or 6x8, unless you do a custom plate, but that will screw your mounting depth up.

If I can borrow my buddies camera again lol, I'll put some pics up of my set up. With a bit of work on the sub box, you should be able to get a nice clean install.

If I had the money, I would run a component system. Its alot more work adapting a 5x7 opening for a 6.5 speaker. Ive done an install like that before and I really dont want to do it again. Cutting the door back to adapt a 6x9 instead of a 5x8 is really easy, just requires a steady hand and some patience. I know the mounting depth on the speakers, I need the depth of the door.

As for the sub, Ive already got a box I was using in my last car. Yeah, its huge, but I dont generally need alot of trunk space on a day-day basis, and I can always just move it out when I do. Im not really worried about that.

The main problem I have is money. Other than that, its time. Im eager to get a system back into my car so I can enjoy music little better. Ive got the entire system minus a single set of speakers from previous rides. Thats why its so missmatched. I want to keep the install clean, but I dont want to get too fancy right now. Thats why I was looking for a dash kit without a pocket and info on where people have mounted some amps.. I dont like the way pockets look, and cant afford to fiberglass it right now (much less pay someone to do it and save some time.)

I would rethink your sub amp.

its rated at 400x1 @ 4ohms

the 12w6v2 sub is a 4ohm sub that has an rms of 400w.

If your car puts out 14.4v, then you will get 400w to that sub...but realistically...you wont. You would be better off with a mor epowerful amp. Plus, JL subs take ALOT more than what they are rated for.

JL amps. :-) My buddy has 2 10w7's running off of a 1000x1 Jl amp. Sounds good.

I am gonna power one 10w6v2 with a Alpine V12 1000x1. RMS should be about 500w on that amp, hoping more.

I can vouch for the JL amp, I am powering my 10w6v2 with a 500/1 and it is a perfect fit.

regarding modding the doors for your speakers... they do make 5x7/6x8 component speakers, no modding necessary. You can also go with a three way factory design, with 6.5", 4"/3", and a tweeter. You should be able to get downsizing plates for the 8" opening and the 5x7" opening in the car to accomodate those speakers. Then leave 6x8 in the rear with your trunk sub taking the rest.

Regarding the double DIN kit, Metra has a kit available which has both a single DIN with cubby and a double DIN mount. Got mine from Electrasound in Parma, Ohio. Hope this helps.

Tiberius - Do you know the part number on that Metra kit you're using? Or what model it was originally made for?
