I don't understand why Ford didn't put any GT emblems in the interior of the car, so I did my own.

First I got one of these:

And some of this:

And mounted it here:

The emblem had two posts for alignment in on the body, I dremeled those off and cleaned the mounting area on the dash with an alcohol wipe. The emblem had double sided tape, but it didn't stick very well. I got the 3M Exterior tape at WalMart. I cut several pieces and placed them along the backside of the emblem. It looks like the 3M tape is holding pretty well.

The tape was $3, the emblem was $11.

I was thinking of mounting those emblems in the middle of the door panel. I'm wondering if they'd be too big.

Good idea and great work!! You could sell them to lots of us on this site. Let us know if you decide to do some side work. I would be interested for sure.

Thanks!

Seems a little too large and "in your face" for my tastes. I like the clean look of the interior as is, so I wouldn't want any uncessary badging.

I have the '68 running pony glove box emblem on mine, right next to the "airbag" sign, and it is only 2.5 inches, not big, very subtle, and looks great. Sorry no pic of it right now.

I thought about that as well. I was thinking of putting it on a belt sander to reduce the thickness by about 1/2 of it's current thickness. What I'd really like to do is find a way to inset it into the dash somehow, but I'm not brave enough to attack my dash with a dremel or box cutter.

The badge itself really isn't too big (wide), from the drivers seat it looks really nice. Anyway, the GT is all about "in your face" so I wanted to bring the interior along for the ride

To everybody that's interested in purchasing one, I got mine at Late Model Restoration Supply.

A day after I ordered mine, I got a phone call saying they were backordered (they didn't mention that during the ordering process). About a week later I received a UPS Shipment notification by Email.

It'll cost you about $25 to find out. I say go for it. If you don't like it, the 3M tape will come off without damaging the car, and I'm sure there are other creative uses for them.

Nice idea - I like it.

I'm mounting the old script "Mustang" from a 68 on the air bag panel. I bought it on ebay and am just waiting for it to arrive.

Don't know if I'd mount it on the airbag panel if I were you. Might end up having "Mustang" script written across the head or chest of a passenger some day. Here's where I put mine:

Everyone remain calm. I don't want to alarm anyone, but there's feaux woodgrain in a Mustang. :P j/k. I like the Mustang script, but would have mounted it closer to the passenger door myself

Actually the way the panels open up for the air bag, even if you have an emblem next to the word " airbag", you would be ok.

I agree, the Mustang script shoudl be cloer to the passanger door, and not in the middle. JMO

I must say in the past I have never been a woodgrain fan, but in your interior that looks hot. Minus the auto-tranny that is a really nice look. I love how the warmth of the leather meets the wood....it works well.

Original Sin,

Did you find someone to sell just the inserts around the radio and the center console? That's exactly what I want, but all the websites I've found sell their inserts in kits, and I really don't want to spend $100+ for just those two pieces. I'd like to get molded satin or brushed aluminum pieces for the center console and radio surround exactly like yours without all the extras.

Thanks,

J

PS Very nice look btw

Mark - never been a fan of woodgrain in a Mustang (although - I believe the late 60's/early 70's models did come with some woodgrain) but that woodgrain looks OK with your color interior......if only there was a way it woul "flow" better with the IUP alum look.....
