Standard Shaker 500 question
Hi all
Not a modification question I know, but......
I have a standard Shaker 500 in my car. Now, if the stereo is on and I remove the key from the ignition, the stereo turns off immediately.
I'm told that on most S197s, the stereo should stay on for 10 minutes after the ignition is switched off, or the drivers door is opened.
Is there a way to switch between the two settings??
Cheers
Paul

I have an 07 GT and the radio stays for 10 minutes or until either door is open. I did not see anything in the owners manual that indicates that this can be changed. I'll check out the shop manual tomorrow and see if there is any info in there on this.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but does not everyone's map lights come on when the key is removed, but the doors are still closed? Mine do. I kinda found that odd... Radio *does* stay on.
I wuz thinkin'... maybe it's a cross connect/short/brain fart on the car's part, but could that little feature could be what's causing it?
Just throwin' that one out there.

This doesn't have anything to do with the actual radio itself. I've got an aftermarket head unit and it'll still stay on for 10 min after taking the key out of the ignition, just like the Skipper 500. I wish I could tell you more about it, but its been a while since' i've read about it. My guess is the car just cuts the voltage to the RUN wire, telling the radio to turn off, the same way it stops the windows from working after either 10 min or when you open the door.
Not necessarily. If the radio has been wired wrong, it can show these problems. Pull the radio and see if it it using the factory harnesses or if it has been hacked at some point. There's dual power wires and if they're switched, everything will work fine, but won't give you the time after key off. There's also the possibility one of the fuses is gone- do interior lights and such stay on until you open the door?
