OK, there are several inquiries into sub and other speaker upgrades. Here is another along that line. I want to install a sub in the trunk of my 06 vert. In fact, I have a pair of unused JL 10" subs and amp from another vehicle.

My question is: how do you tap into the system? The dedicated sub amp has rca connectors, but I don't know where to feed from? Are there sub outs on the Shaker 500, or can I just tap into the door sub connections to the aftermarket sub amp?

Also, I want to upgrade the factory door speakers (Shaker 500) with a component system. Does the threeway crossover from the speaker suppliers use the feed in the door and split it three ways? What is the proper way to get the input to the new crossovers? I have yet to open the door to see what I have.

I want to keep the head unit and stock look of the car, but upgrade the speaker system. Probably be interested in the JL Cleansweep and additional amps along with the component door speakers, but need technical advice on how to integrate those into the existing Shaker 500! Much thanks for all suggestions and help!!

The Shaker 500 uses two separate amplifiers to power the 8" door subs. The front midrange/tweeter in the upper part of the door are powered by the head unit, as are the rear deck speakers. I've had a plan to tap into the pre-amp outs of the factory head unit. A company called Soundgate (http://www.soundgate.com) makes an adapter (model LOCB.2) that can be used tap into the pre-amp outputs of the head unit and turn it into an RCA pre-amp connection. Based on what you describe, that would work for you. I have bought everything I need but haven't gotten around to getting my hands dirty just yet. I'm just planning to add a sub, and leave the rest stock so that's all I got.

The Shaker 500 system is not listed in their compatibility documents online, so I e-mailed them and a technician replied telling me that the LOCB.2 would work in this situation. You might e-mail them too and verify it.

Thanks Kevin. I'll post more info when I dive in. It will be few months most likely.

Hey all!

Does anyone know if the Shaker 500 speaker outputs are full range? I'm assuming that it's a four channel output and there are no sub outs like KevinS described in this thread.

Thanks in advance!
