Simple/inexpensive trunk lid mod

Many new cars have a handle by which you can pull the open trunk lid down to make closing it easier. Our Mustangs do not

It is easy enough to reach your hand into one of the 2 large sort of oval shaped holes on either side of the inside of the trunk lid and pull until you get your fingers on the lock botton cavity (or wherever...I hate finger prints on my clean paint) However, the metal edges are a bit sharp.

Go to Pep Boys, for 1.99 buy Style Guard door guards, (2 per pack) (black, chrome or gold) cut 1 of em in half, and slide ovet rhe sharp edge...it makes it real nice when you reach into the hole.....

i was ****ed when i first opened and closed the trunk lid to my GT and then I came up with the perfect solution. Instead of trying to pull it down from INSIDE the lid, i tried the outside. and ofcorse at first, get them **** fingerprints all over but then i realized one thing. THE KEY HOLE! it may leave one fingerprint but u can just wipe that off in a split second and even if you dont, trust me, u cant see anything

so next time, just reach around when the lid is open, put ur finger in the trucnk key hole and pull down. works every time!

I just use my Silverhorse Racing Honeycomb panel to close mine. No fingerprints show up on it.

I was wondering if someone might come up with a solution for this. Sheesh, what would have taken for the ergonomics designed to add a pull handle. I like the push on the keyhole idea. Will have to give it a try.

BTW, Don't ever try to close the trunk lid by the inside plastic cover. It just pops right off and makes a loud crashing sound as it hits you in the chest. haa haa Won't do that again!

I agree the trunk key hole is the way to go, and you've gotta use it regardless. The door edge guards simply help in getting the trunk lid to a level where its easy to push down on the key hole and you don't have to do a blind hunt for it.

I'm amazed that this has been a issue for anyone. Difficulty closing the trunk? Are you 4'9"? The keyhole and faux gas cap are easy to find. I'm still at a loss as to how this is even an issue.
