Seat Back Lever
Seat Back Lever
Ok, so these seats are awesome and all, except the tilt latch is prone to breaking. I have heard so many stories of people buying new ones only to have them break the very next day. I never had a nice set of my own either. And you can only get the replacement part from ford, and they cost $30+ each! Thats $60+ bucks for the pair, the burden of going to the dealer, and no warranty that the part will last a month.
Well they make so many billet part for this vehicle, but never this part. I thought it was odd until I recently found two different guys who make em.
Theres this guy: http://www.allfordmustangs.com/forum...t-latches.html
He sells the for $80 shipped. His ebay username is gabkate and his e-mail is kategab7 at aol dot com. If anyones interested.
But I didnt get those. Two days ago I found these: http://www.innovators.bz/iw_07_003.htm
The sites not very professionally done, and the picture looks a bit crude (mine actually came polished), and apparently theres yet another metal shop company in kansas under the same name... ...but these guys are awesome, and I highly recomend them!
Ok, $65 for the pair. Normally I would say thats high, but considering how much ford charges, basically for the same money you have to pay for factory parts, you get this nice upgrade, and since its metal they dont break. $71 total for them to ship to TX. I had to order off the phone which was kinda odd considering its 2008... ...but they came in today!!! Ordered Tuesday, I got it Thursday!!!! Is that service or what?!? And it was tuesday afternoon when I made the call! It came with its own installation tool too, so I dropped everything and immediately installed these.
So if youre tired of this replacement game, or you have another month of two before yours breaks, I highly recommend them!!! But, if somone hits their head on them, dont sue. No one should ever ride in the back of a mustang anyway!!! (it was rumored that ford was worried this would happen, which is why they never fixed this issue)

Great Find!
Good Job MLP. I have been putting off doing the Ford replacement thing. I need something and seems that you have the right idea. I live in Mid-Missouri so it should not take too long for them to get here a well. We have a big show on June 22 so hopefully they will arrive by then.
Did they come with installation instructions? (I saw the post on that other forum thread with basic instructions)
Thanks man!

They do not come with instructions. Apparently you dont have to remove anything though. You may have to remove the blak bezel if you still have clip parts attached. But basically, I figured out that you slide it on over the tilt part and pull up on it like you would to fold the chair (actually easier when the seat is folded) Then you tighten the tiny hex bolt thats provide. I was worried the bolt would be visible, so I installed it where the bolt is under the lever. Since the hex key tool is very thin, I held it as close to the bolt as possible to prevent bending of the tool, and increase the ability to tighten.
Its pretty much the same installation steps as many buillit pieces, like my headlight ****
Yeah, The heads on both are a bit bulky. It would be nice to have the head of the lever more like the oem style, but these currently are the only ones on the market. I havent been able to tilt my seats since I got them for xmas, so I was pretty impatient. Perhaps in a year or two, when all these models no longer are under warrenty, more well know manufactures like UPR and MGW will create something everyone will like. It took them a year after my email for them to make a 94-04 convertible button. Im sure this will take just as long. Problem is, can you wait?

And i am certain it is due to not wanting to be sued if for some reason someone was to get into and accident and get impaled by the lever since it would no longer break away like the factory plastic.
I suppose so. That was fords reason anyway. Although, do they really break off that easily? I would assume the very same people would sue for receiving a massive bruise from hitting the plastic one. Personally I think Ford really wasnt thinking with this one. I mean theyve been making cars now for over a century. Im not sure when the first tilting seat was introduced, but the levers for these have always been on the side of seats or on th very bottom of the backings.
How did they get by with all the crash tests? They didnt forsee this as a problem until hundreds of thousands of these cars were sold to the public? And what I want to know is why the faulty seatbelts? Technically pasengers if in the rear wear the seatbelt properly, with the shoulder belt, they should never be lundged forward like that. Although, I guess theres really not a whole lot of room back there.
But I do question their seatbelt safety. I understand my car is a 94 and not an 05+, but as a driver, I can stand up in my car still wearing my seatbelt properly. Im not angry at this lack of safety because I use this feature frequently when I have to look over retarded trucks and SUVs who cant for the life of them stay behind the white line, allowing me to see oncoming traffic, when I wish to make a turn.
But if these companies are that worried, cant the very same people hit their head on the coat hooks (they make billet parts for) and front seatbelt top cover (on other vehicles)?
Oh well, I have a rear seat delete so no ones legally allowed to ride back there anyway. They would more likely be killed some other way if they tried. Im happy with my purchase and just wanted other people in the same situation to know about this.
