Replacing the Shaker 500 HU only, worth it?

Hey guys this is my firts post and I just got my GT last week and was wondering if I replace the stock HU with a high end one, can I expect a dramatic improvement in sound quality or will it sound almost the same?

Thanx
James

You really need good speakers first. Any head unit won't really sound any better than the speakers. Upgrade the speakers for the same money and you may be content with the HU for now. Just adding a sub in the trunk helped my 500. I hope to change the speakers out latter today. Just gotta get a few other things done first.

well.. apart from parting with the skipping problems, given a proper harness, you could have a drop-in replacement headunit with so many more features than the stock HU
think about DVD, Navigation.. and best of all, a full equalizer! not just Bass and Treble control

believe me, an equalizer makes SO much difference in the sound quality.
and hey, the stock speakers aren't all that bad!

just add an amp and a sub in the trunk, and you're in business
