While I am trying to get my hands on a DVD from the shop or some books on the 05 I was wondering what some of you might know about completely ripping out the mid console.

I thought it would be nice to fabricate something a bit smaller or make a floor shifter while keeping the bucket seats with the possibility of getting someone to create an extender between the two seats made of red leather as well. I would love the look of an old bench seat, but without a little more knowledge of what is in the console as far as machinery goes I can't start planning.

Thoughts?

I think you have gone bored with your Stang. The center console looks great and IMO your car will look awful without it.

Take it out and see! Go to this thread and get the PDFs mentioned. They will tell you how to disassemble the console - about a 1 hour job and the only tool needed is a screwdriver. Then you can decide whether you want to pursue it.

Opinion - don't. Not really possible to do and have it look good and be functional. First, you'd be working around both your e-brake and your shifter. Second, you'd loose all the cupholders in the car (2) and a powerpoint. Third, there's a hump there for your driveshaft. And lastly, I don't think it'd be worth it unless you were trying to submit it for an episode of 'Pimp My Ride.'

Just kiddin, but I've had mine removed and am speaking from experience. But as always... it's your car.

One other thing... There are no useful door pockets in the car so you'd loose all your storage.

Oh, wait a minute... so that's what the back seat is for...

I find myself doing that quite a bit. Personally, I dont think it's a bad idea if you have a custom console, but the faux "seat" would look out of place IMO.

Thanks for the replies. As far as storage I don't really care too much. In fact I have quite a problem with the cup holders in the console because whatever I put in there seems in the way when shifting.

I did figure that I'd have to work around the e-brake, but I think I could find a solution. But it is helpful to know that some people have taken their's apart already and know it's not worth it! So thanks 05GT-O.C.D.

That being said - I still think I might work on it this summer.

You're not alone...

I was thinking the same thing. I don't really like the console and I think it takes up a lot of room and is also too much in the way. I searched the forum to see if any company had come up with a "minimal" replacement for the console, but I found nothing.

You can check the GT-R to get a sense of what the effect might be: http://www.dieselstation.com/wallpapers/20...ang-GTR-020.jpg
(don't know if it would be possible to relocate the parking brake though)

Also... has anyone noticed that the rearwindow defrost light and button are completely invisible where they've put it? What a poor design for a modern car...
I guess they figured only us canadians would ever use that...
