RedLine Goods E brake boot install

Has anyone installed the E brake boot by RedLine Goods? I purchased both a shifter boot and E brake boot and have managed to get the shifter boot installed.

As for the E brake boot, I have the center console taken off. And now the instructions say to use some pliers to squeeze the plastic clips that hold the rubber and metal retainer in on the underside of the console.

I am stuck here and was wondering has anyone done this install before? I am not sure how to squeeze these clips as I am afraid of breaking them

I tried getting help from Maciek over at RedLine, but he does not really remember as it has been a long time that he has done this type of install.

They're a soft and pliable rubber , if you can squeeze the top end that is flattened back to a round shape you can get it through the hole in metal retainer. I broke some doing it and I used a small metal screw through the hole in the retainer to what was left of the plastic to reattach it.

Or you could return it, and purchase from one of our members: https://themustangsource.com/f692/le...covers-501548/

Just throwin' that out there.

His 3/4 e brake looks nice too! But I am going to try the RedLine product first since I have it here already.

Great! Thanks for the tip! I just went back at it and it seems to be working......just have to be patient. What size of length did you buy for the metal screws?

Any other words of wisdom to pass on?

As small a size screw as you can find , the smallest size I can usually find at HomeDepot is #6 by 1/2" , but if you can find smaller it's probably better ...

Is that 1/2 inch in length? That does not seem very long.

By any chance did you have to make some extra holes when installing the E brake boot? It seems like RedLine forgot to punch in enough holes on one side of my boot.

if you get tired of messing with that boot, you might want to try a different setup.

also jim010 wasnt too impressed with redline so he designed a boot and would probably have some input. redline makes alot of parts but mostly for imports

I made my own using my own pattern that fits tighter, rather than baggy. Using my system, the rubber sleeve is replaced.

You can also try these guys. They make shifters and armrest covers as well as e-brake boots for the Fox Mustangs all the way upto the present cars.

Yes that is 1/2" length , you only need it long enough to bite into what is left of the plastic pin. Also, yes you may need to add some holes , the design and quality of the red line boot is not very good , I have long since replaced mine with one of jim010's boots ...

I like the quality of the Redline boot, but I will have to see how it fits and looks once I finish the installation.....which has not been all that easy.

You guys have been very helpful here and I am going to go buy some 1/2 inch screws in the next day or two. Maciek suggested using some scissors poking some extra holes.....does anyone else have some suggestions?
